Services

Paladin offers a bench and shaded rest area, plus a fountain (the fuente lavadero la sierra) tucked about 20 meters behind a house -- turn right at the first road, right again at the entrance to the first house, then straight back. Between here and Penaflor the walking follows the Rio Nalon with the FEVE train tracks on your left, passing through the roadside villages of Puerma and Laracha.

The Camino:

Between Paladin and Peñaflor you will be walking with the río Nalón and the train tracks on your left-hand side. You will pass through the roadside villages of Puerma and Laracha. Peñaflor is on the opposite side of the river when you get to the first bridge. Once you have passed the church on the opposite side of the river, the camino immediately leaves the road to the right to follow signs in the direction of the FEVE railway station.

Villa Palatina Hostel

This was a great place to end a day. We had a private room which included bath robe, soap, shampoo and confortable bed. I have never seen caring and helpful staff like I have here. I would come back!! Thank you Tatiana and Pablo! ❤️

Best first stop

The owners gave 1 hour time extra from their private tome after dinner to explain all the pilgrims about what and how to do nowadays in the camimo. Super helpful and kind people. The buffet breakfast is fresh, healthy and they make you coffee too.

The beds are comfy the place is clean.

As an extra gem they have access to the river which is a cool spot after your day to cool down your legs. Its really nice, fully recommend

Stay at Villa Palatina Hostel

Pablo and Tatiana greeted us by name and made our stay so much fun. We had a 6 bed shared room and slept like a baby. There were 2 bathrooms for our use so we never had to wait. The sheets were pressed and clean. Get the breakfast as the hosts went above and beyond to make the breakfast buffet a spread to accommodate all. No wonder Pablo told us they had the best job ever.

Villa palatina

Very good albergue with hosts Pablo and Tatiana who really care for pilgrims. Moreover, they possess a great sense of humour, so plenty of hilarious laughs guaranteed. Dinner is on the pricy side, but it is good and the entertainment provided by the hosts is free

Nice place to stay

It may be more expensive than other albergues, but the dorm rooms are spacious and comfortable with ensuite bathrooms. It’s quiet in a beautiful location. The hosts are kind and very accommodating. Pablo is a hoot! Food is good and plentiful, just be prepared to pay extra.

20€ the bed now

Nice hammocks on the river, spacious dorms, a bit pricey compared to the rest of the albergues but it's nice once in a while.
The only thing I'd say is I wish there was a little kitchen corner to make some little food or have tea/coffee/ instant soup whenever you like

Hammock with the feet ib the river

Nice lunch stop. Don’t forget the to sit in the hammock over the river and cool down your feet. First class!

Disappointing

Rooms and bathrooms are clean, Pablo is welcoming. Arrived on a day the team were working at a local festival which maybe why things felt a bit disorganized. There is a coffee shop/ hot water machine that you pay for or order from the restaurant - no facilities to make your own drink etc. Pool was full of bugs, bin in outside space overflowing, tables needed wiping etc
The dinner menu was expensive for what it was - the quality of ours was very poor, the other 2 people who were there seemed happy with their choice.
Around 1.30am we were woken by doors slamming and lots of loud voices from the kitchen upstairs. This went on for a short while.
I wouldn’t stay there again due to price and poor quality of food.

Friendly people

Had a coffee on the way to Grado. Reasonably priced and very friendly people. They charge a small fee if you want to use only toilet but not getting food or drinks

A comfortable night

I wanted to spend more time in Oviedo in the morning and not push all the way to Grado. So I chose to stay here. This is a very quiet hostel and I had an incredibly comfortable nights sleep for 20€. I loved waking up to the sound of the river. I was able to wash my clothes for 4€ in the washing machine, which was much needed! I would recommend having a hearty meal before coming here if you are a budget pilgrim. The restaurant is nice, but overpriced. If you’re not on a budget it’s really comfortable, but value for the dollar is less than in other places. I ate a delicious “complete salad” and arroz con leche for 14€. I enjoyed the host Pablo very much. He was kind and attentive.

One of the best!

Nice pool. Fantastic rest area behind the outside dining area whith restchair hanging over the streaming water. Just dip your feet in and relax.

And no problem to get out early in the morning. Ask the staff before you go to bed how to do.

A chaotic night

The place is nice and welcoming. However, we had quite a challenging evening, night, and morning in the albergue. The dinner was served very late (at 21) and the breakfast also (at 9). The host seemed a little drunk and a guest got so drunk that he made noise during the whole and even fell out of his upper bed. In the early morning we wanted to escape but were not able to open the gate and thus had to crawl over the fence. This is hopefully a unique experience but still very unpleasant.

The best

The best accommodation in the 6 ways of Santiago that I did.

The room was spacious, the beds were new and the cleanliness was excellent.

The food in the restaurant is wonderful. With all their gluten free menu.

The best thing is the attention. Tatyana, Arantza and Pablo make you feel like one of the family from the moment you arrive.

I arrived as a pilgrim and left as a friend.
