Scenic view of Escamplero on the Camino del Norte

Camino del Norte App

Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino del Norte app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Services

Two bars: one at the start of town and another, El Tendejon, closer to the albergue. El Tendejon keeps the keys to the albergue and is closed on Wednesdays, when the key is available at the shop on the road. The albergue occupies the old school building; its 14th-century predecessor, which served pilgrims on this same route, is now a private home.

The Camino:

Exit town via the road (turn left from the albergue). Before Valsera, the camino will leave the road for 400m.

Refreshments

The first bar is closed and looks as if it has been for some time.
As it was Wednesday we knew that the second bar would be closed.
Shortly pass this there is a shop where we were able to purchase cold drinks and snacks.

Albergue

Albergue is lovely to stay in, lots of space and easy to check-in at the bar. I’d recommend bringing some food from Oviedo - I had some pinchos from the bar but not much else and kitchen facilities here are good :)

if there is no other way we would skip this alberque. It seems to be the clubhouse of the local youth who use it frequently. also at the time we were there. It is overdue, beds are dirty, mold and damp.
Not recommended.

Private room booked 9th Sept 2022

Being now on my 4th Camino; and just turned 80! I’m a little slower than the rest trekking the Primitivo! After all the climbing but also descents I’m knocked out! So booked into the pension instead of Aubergue! Very well received and very good price I reckon at €35/night for one!
