Services

In O Pobo an alternative route into Pontevedra presents itself on the left side of the road — turn left to follow signs toward the Rio Tomeza. This riverside path is 3.6 km to the Pontevedra albergue (near the bus and train stations), while the original road route to the same point is 2.8 km. The riverside path is longer but infinitely more pleasant.

Took the green path

We didn’t follow the purple route (seems here it was along the river) but no regrets! Appears to be slightly shorter and still a lovely walk

On a warm sunny day, the river route is just lovely.

Take the chance to put your feet in and refresh in the first half of the 'detour'. The water is clear and cool, rejuvenating you for the walk into town. The return to the built up environment is abrupt!

Take the river route

The alternative road along the river was beautiful and shaded - would recommend!

River trail is not worth it

February 27
The river trail is very muddy and eroded in spots. There were downed trees that required a detour. It was not particularly scenic - there was trash and most of the plants were invasives - English ivy, etc.

Flooding in the Camino complimentary March 10

Heads up. Just walked this today and it’s nice enough but be prepared to get really sodden feet and up to your ankles in mud. Flooding is quite amazing. Made for a tiring albeit rural end to the day.

Cafe fermin

Well worth the short detour off the Camino!

Definitely choose the Alternative way

Wonderful walk by the river. Even on the rainy day it wasn’t so much mud. Better than the road 100%

Café Fermin

Just before you enter Santa Marta, there’s a café bar signposted 50m off the route. Stopped for a nice coffee and tortilla for breakfast. Very good - recommend

Took the alternative road

Took the alternative road before Pontevedra, very nice walk through the forest, would recommend it - definitely worth the extra 800m!

Went to green (basic) road.

Went to green (basic) road. Nothing extraordinary. Just walking on a car road. Wonder what was at the left turn?
