Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino de Invierno app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.
Get the appUterga is a small village of about 170 people at the base of the Sierra del Perdon's western slope, about 19 km from Pamplona. After the rocky descent from the pass, it feels like a reward. A couple of bars serve food — the Gastrobar Camino del Perdon has earned a good reputation among pilgrims — and a small shop covers basics.
The village has attractive stone architecture and a quiet atmosphere. The Iglesia de la Asuncion anchors the old center. Most pilgrims pass through quickly, but it's a pleasant spot for a coffee and a rest before the flat walk to Murozabal. There's a fountain with fresh water in the village.
Like much of the Valdizarbe valley, Uterga sits on land that was worked in Roman times — traces of Roman roads and settlements have been found throughout the area between here and Puente la Reina. The village's agricultural character has remained essentially unchanged for centuries, with farming and viticulture defining the landscape.
From Uterga the camino follows a gentle track across open agricultural land toward Murozabal. The terrain is flat and easy, a welcome change after the descent. About 2 km of walking with the Sierra del Perdon now behind you.

After walking over the hill of Alto del Perdón this albergue was a welcome sight. €31 for a bed, lovely pilgrim meal and breakfast.

The hosts are wonderful. The communal.meal was too! The rear yard is a nice place to hang out a drink a beer or wine with fellow pilgrims.

There was almost nothing open in the towns between Pamplona and Puente la Reina so we were thrilled to see the crowd of pilgrims coming and going at Albuerge Camino del Perdon around 1 pm. Shady seats, clean toilets, and an extensive menu. I had a salad with avocado and shrimp and it was fresh and perfectly dressed. My husband had a tuna sandwich and it was huge! Prob could share a sandwich unless you’re truly famished. We were too full to indulge, but the cakes looked amazing… I almost took a slice to go. And if you need it, there was a vending machine with blister care projects including Compeeds.

Albergue Camino del Pedron was closed when I arrived. Stayed at Casa Bastan opposite. Quiet not many Pilgrims on Camino. Maybe saw 6 all day.
