Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino de Invierno app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.
Get the appThe Alto de Mostelares is the highest point on the meseta section, though the climb from Castrojeriz is less daunting than it looks from below. The first stretch is steep, but it levels off quickly. From the top, the view looking back toward Castrojeriz and the plain beyond is more impressive than what lies ahead.
A shelter at the summit provides shade. The descent on the far side is steep at first, then eases as you approach the shaded picnic area before the Ermita de San Nicolás.
The descent from the alto follows a resurfaced track, steep at first then gentler. Between the alto and the Ermita de San Nicolás there's a shaded picnic area — the only real shade on this stretch.

2 euros for a delicious cup of brewed coffee. Prices were marked
Lovely experience.

I’m not sure if the vendor has changed from the previous post, but here is my experience September 12, 2025. The coffees were 2 euro each. But I had the most amazing breakfast ever. It was avocado toast with cottage cheese topped to everything bagel seasoning (I’m sure it was the better Spanish version) and drizzled with honey. 4 euro. The host was amazing and made it fresh! They pulled the food trailer to the top of the hill with a very small car and had a generator to keep everything cold. Highly recommend.

It’s that kind of relationship - we like to see him after so many miles, and he rips us off. €6 for 2 coffees. But it’s our decision to buy or not.
Pleasant guy.

First time being robbed on the Camino, be wary of the food truck.
No prices and the guy just made up high prices, considering food was cereal bars continue extra kilometers to next town and breakfast there instead
