Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino de Invierno app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.
Get the appFrómista sits at the southernmost point of the Camino Francés and at the historical center of Spain's wheat country. The arrival of the Canal de Castilla in the late 18th century stabilized a town whose fortunes had risen and fallen with the grain harvests.
The Iglesia de San Martín is the reason to stop. Rebuilt and restored in the early 20th century to something close to its 11th-century form, it's considered one of the purest examples of Romanesque architecture in Spain. The proportions are harmonious, the carved corbels on the exterior are lively (animals, humans, grotesques), and the interior is bare and beautiful. Whether the restoration went too far — making it look too perfect — is a debate that has occupied art historians for a century. Judge for yourself.
Several albergues, restaurants, and a supermarket serve the town. All basic services available.
San Telmo is celebrated on the Monday after Easter Monday — a major event for Frómista. San Telmillo follows the next Sunday. Santiago on July 25. The Virgen de Otero in September.
Pedro González Telmo, patron saint of sailors and the namesake of Saint Elmo's Fire, was born in Frómista. The town's strategic position at the canal junction made it a commercial hub in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Leaving Frómista requires retracing your steps to the main intersection — don't wander blindly through town. If you're departing before dawn, scout the arrows the evening before. The trail follows a straight path alongside the road toward Población de Campos.

Andy and José's hostel is absolutely fantastic – completely different from all the other hostels I've stayed in on the Way of St. James so far! The beds are super comfortable, offer privacy, and the atmosphere is simply really cozy. The dinner is really amazing, those were the best pork ribs I've ever eaten in my life! I can only warmly recommend it to you all!

A great hostel and restaurant.
Juan is very nice and helpful and flexible😍
His hostel is clean and warm, with functioning heaters😍 every bed nook has a lamp, outlet and small shelves. The curtain gives you a bit more privacy and it doesn't start right at the bed edge but you have enough space that getting dressed is easy.
The dinner was excellent. You could choose from 5 dishes.
I had the grilled ribs, they were a treat! Tender, juicy and very well seasoned.
The wine was also better than usually the case with pilgrim menus.
The price was fair for me,
42€ for accommodation, dinner and breakfast.
Thank you dear Juan!
Five stars

"El Chiringuito" is also a hostel. This is a pilgrim restaurant famous among Korean pilgrims for serving the most delicious dinner meals on the route. It now also has an excellent hostel.

El Chiringuito looks like just a restaurant here, but it’s actually a fab albergue. Individual cubbies with curtains, great facility, nice owners. App needs updating :)

What a gem! One of the best Albergue . The owner is a truly lovely, courteous, and attentive person. His hostel is simply wonderful, with proper beds, great new mattresses, and warm duvets. The showers are hot, and there's plenty of space. Each bed has a light and power outlets, and you can choose between a bed by the window or against the wall. Every bunk has curtains for added privacy. Thank you Jose!!!!

Wise Pilgrim indicated a train and bus at this location but we were unable to locate either. Locals indicated no bus was there.

Los Palmeros is NOT a restaurant for pilgrims; they turned us away at the entrance. The one next door is very good and they are very attentive to pilgrims.

Perhaps the best pilgrim restaurant you've eaten at. Good price and even better food, order the Iberian ribs.

There wasn’t much open anyway this early in the season but this spot was awesome. Bartender was super accommodating and brought out a free round to end the night. Definitely worth a stop.

not sure why no one has yet mentioned free 6pm free concert in church of san Pedro with gregorian chant. not sure how often but at least twice this week as pilgrim friends also went a few days ago.

Stayed in hostal de camino private room, all good. No food here in the hostal. Maybe a lot of places close earlier 🤷🏼♀️ so the evening option was an okay but overpriced €21 el menu del dia and not great quality. Other option a Michelin star restaurant that opens 8-9pm. The panaderia opens late and early at 6:30am great coffee, bocadillio and pastries

SalAzar is a bright spot in this little town. Baked goods are very good. Open early. Spotless and cheery. Friendly staff!

Wonderful ribs at el chiringuito on July 6 2025.
Delicious.

Had dinner at this restaurant.
It opens at 6.30pm but on the night I was there I couldn’t get a table till 8.30pm. I had salmon which tasted very fresh. My companions had ribs which were very good. Service good and friendly staff. Would recommend

Salazar Panadería was one of the best we’ve tried on the Camino so far! Lovely selection of breads and treats!

I Albergue Vicus hostel is amazing. Extremely kind host - Ángel - treated us with kindness and warm regards. He recommended us the restaurant Van-dos. Cool restaurant owner/bartender/waiter. Great food and wine for pilgrims. Washed off the tiredness.

For out of season Peregrinas/os, stock up before you set out for the 19km/3.5 hour jaunt.
Particularly if you are an early riser.
There was no water, no food & no one en route.
The good news - when the town comes into view, it’s a happy surprise after a long stroll.
18. May 2023 - 8:40
Quiet little sad town. Locals seem to have a chip on their shoulders. Even when I do my best to be polite smile and not demanding. Everything is way over priced and low quality. The cathedrals aren’t very note worthy. Consider staying somewhere else

Las Palmeros is a fantastic place to dine. You could plop it down in Chicago or New York and it would fit right in with the finest restaurants there. Not inexpensive by Spanish standards but it would be a bargain in any world city.
