Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino Portugués app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Vila Franca is the heart of Ribatejo bullfighting culture. The bright yellow bullring announces your arrival, and the town's campinos — the horsemen who tend the bulls on the surrounding lezírias (floodplains) — are a living tradition. Several bull-running festivals are held in July and October.
The riverside pedestrian path continues through the municipal gardens. Unless you need to enter the town for services, keep on the path — yellow arrows at the bullring will guide you into and out of town if needed.
Several bull running/fighting festivals are held in July and October.
The town's name suggests it was first settled by French followers of Portugal's first king, Afonso Henriques. The surrounding lezírias — the flat, fertile floodplains of the Tejo — have supported cattle ranching and horse breeding for centuries, giving the Ribatejo its distinctive equestrian culture.
The camino goes through the municipal gardens and then under the N10. From this point, the new camino might get confused with the old route. Shortly after the camino passes under the N10, it passes a small factory and then turns right. By turning right the camino continues along a much quieter and safer path to Vala do Carregado.NOTE: The old arrows indicating the way over the busy road may still exist.

Hey pilgrims! M here.
I had the best lunch at "150 Gramas", the pulpo was a delight and the lemons meringue pie to end with was exquisite. Happy walking.

I was here on July 6 and they were just finishing their Red Vest Festival. The town was a big party the whole weekend, if you're planning on the Camino in the beginning of July, it might be worth noting (to attend or avoid as you wish!)
As with most places on the Camino, Sunday was pretty dead for shops, even with the festival.

Had an amazing meal at Tasco da Ilda in VFDX. The owner and her husband were wonderful hosts, very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent, especially the meat croquettes and tuna tartar. Rated as one of the best eateries in Portugal. It won’t disappoint

It was worth waiting for a table at restaurante o retiro. Busy and really good atmosphere. Delicious meal and very friendly staff. We had a drink at the bar next door while we waited. Completely different but also nice in its own way, very friendly owners.

We stayed at the Lezeiria hotel, a lovely and comfy spot for a great nights sleep. Directions to leave this morning are a little confusing. Yesterday we walked the narrow N 10 and found it a little dangerous on some roads but hoping to jump back onto the new path, i will follow up after for more clarity

A very pretty and delightful town, lots of locals out catching up for coffee or a drink in the many outdoor (for this time of year) cafes. I seem to be the only pilgrim in town on this day, but found an amazing little restaurant, Maioral restaurant and bar, right next to Hopedaria Maioral, fabulous meal and lovely staff.

After a 40km walk from Lisbon on Day 1 of my Camino, it was wonderful to get into Villa Franca. Cute town worth an hour or so to wander around

Fair big local town without tourism. Charming with local well makeup ladies who were chatting and greeting each other on the street , in cafe in the morning. Very local fabrics.

I spent about 20 extra min just wandering the streets and don’t regret it for a second. Such a beautiful town with so much history.
