Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino Portugués app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

The ground behind you: what the walk into Azambuja crosses, and where it could have been broken.
Tomorrow from Azambuja
Nothing says you have to stop here, or there. These are simply the towns within a comfortable day's walk, so you can decide tonight.

Azambuja is a medium-sized town with all necessary services and is the last place of any size before the long, flat walk across the Ribatejo plain to Santarem. Stock up here.
If you took the train from Lisbon, this is a sensible place to start walking — flat farmland, open skies, and the first stretch of proper countryside after the urban sprawl. The commuter train from Oriente takes under an hour.
Leaving town means another railway crossing. The arrows lead you to the train station, and an elevated pedestrian bridge (painted blue) gets you over the track and onto the first stretch of country walking for some time. You will be in flat farmland nearly the entire way to Santarém. A few villages and countless large Quintas can be found along the way.

Bed bugs beware! Went to go for a siesta after we arrived, and I opened my eyes to a pillow full of bed bugs. We have advised the staff, who are not onsite, so just tread carefully here.

Busy in Albergue Peregrinos tonight, but the lady who runs it is very friendly.
Bunk beds only and they appear to have overflow single folding beds.
You get a sheet and a pillow and if you ask nicely you can get a blanket too.
There is an outside space where you can wash your clothes and dry them, sit and relax etc.
For a bite to eat, leave the albergue and turn right (maybe 25/30m) is a restaurant called Os Segredos d’Avó, the lady who served us was very helpful and with the little Portuguese we spoke combined with her little English we ended up with a nice home cooked chicken and rice meal. Azambuja is a nice place too.

This Albergue is great. It has everything you need. For only 10€ you get a sheet and pillow. The capacity of Albergue is proximately 14 - 16 people (everyone is sleeping in the same room). There are 2 showers, 2 toilets, garden where you can dry your clothes and small kitchen (with microwave and electric kettle, unfortunately without stove). This Albergue was very clean. It is located few metres from the Camino and there is a shop nearby.

The last week of May sees the highlight of the social calendar for this small town. The running of the bulls. Anyone who passes through here from 24th to 31st May may have to walk a little faster than normal to keep out of the way of the charging bulls and horses. Town goes into party mode.

We stayed in Azambuja on August 14 2021, in an albergue which is not listed in the app. It is called, unsurprisingly, Albergue de Peregrinos de Azambuja. When the camino turns right towards the railway, don't take the turn but keep walking on the street for like 50 meters. The albergue will be on the right, marked by the shell of Santiago. Had a QR code on the door, which gave us a phone number, we called it and the hospitaleiro arrived in 15 minutes. Nice small albergue, €10 for a bunk bed, we were the only ones staying there. (I took the idea from a comment under the paroquial albergue in this app, but that one is closed and this is a different albergue.)
