Albergue do Gérard

Gerard has created a space for pilgrims that makes you feel like coming home after a long day on the road. The place is cozy, clean, and offers a great home made meal in community. Though it's a bit off track, I highly recommend the detour, and you can catch up from there through a different trail in the morning, so you have an advanced start.

Ik heb bij Gerard verbleven van 6-7 april 2026. Zeer gastvrij en eigenlijk zoals een albergue hoort te zijn. Gerard kookte lekker en hield rekening met mijn dieet. Kortom, een absolute aanrader. Niels

Stayed here a few days ago with just one other girl, this place is absolutely fabulous!! Amazing building, so clean, cozy bed, tasty food, couldn't have asked for a better stay.

Small and intimate with a great shower and amazing host. Lovely conversation with Gerard and guests, great food for both dinner and breakfast! It’s off route but well worth the walk to (it’s easy to cut back to the main route the next day). I recommend getting lunch in town then coming to the Albergue for check in at 3 and enjoying a relaxing evening!

Stayed here on 17th September 2025. Felt like a haven, run by Gerard who is an inspirational guy and an amazing cook.....the meal he prepared was the best food I've eaten so far on the Camino. He made Tamsin and I feel so welcome and I was sad to leave

I was the only guest at Gerard’s the night I stayed in early September, so this was very comfortable and easy for me.
I had a delicious moussaka with a great salad and really enjoyed my conversations with Gerard both in the evening and in the morning. He also prepares two sorts of breakfast on request. It was a very enjoyable and good value stay.

A reasonable price for this fresh new albergue. Gerard offers dinner at a reasonable cost. Lovely home cooking, comfy beds and great showers.

Great place to stay. Highly recommended Only 6 beds in the place the host Gerard was very hospitable, cooked a delicious dinner and goes out of his way to make you feel at home. A few kms up the road which was a few euros Taxi from the city centre if you don’t want to walk but you save on the kms the following morning to get back on the Camino as it leads back on further up

Nice German guys who was pilgrim himself leads place. It is super cozy, nice garden. We had huge home made dinner with salad, a lot of vegetables, chicken, wine and fruit as a dessert. Dinner was 8.5€. So definitely recommend. It is 10 minutes away from road but in morning you can take a shortcut and be back on a road faster so it is worth it!

Such a welcoming stay! Gerard our host, is so friendly and very hospitable, he cooked a delicious dinner for us- the best meal we’ve had in Portugal so far! A must do!
The new facilities were immaculately clean: they felt very luxurious and homely at the time!

Este é, sem dúvida, um dos melhores albergues de todo o Caminho Português! Meu profundo agradecimento ao Gérardo pela acolhida tão calorosa e pela comida maravilhosa que aqueceu o coração.

The host Gérard is a very nice guy and also a pilgrim from Germany. It’s a brand new and very small albergue. Make sure to get a reservation in advance because it’s a bit outside of the village again. You definitely have to go for the dinner, Gerard is a great cook and when I was there he even grilled some chicken for us on the fire.
