Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino Francés app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

The Monastery of Samos is one of the oldest and largest monasteries in Spain, its documented history reaching back to the 6th century. The complex is enormous: two cloisters (the Claustro Grande is one of the largest in Spain), a Baroque church, and monastic buildings that sprawl across the valley floor.
A community of Benedictine monks still lives here, and the monastery offers guided tours. The Claustro Grande has a 16th-century cloister with a cypress garden. The smaller Claustro de las Nereidas is older and more intimate. The church has Baroque frescoes and a fine organ.
A devastating fire in 1951 destroyed much of the monastery, and the restoration took decades. What you see today is partly original, partly rebuilt — but the scale and atmosphere remain impressive.
A couple of albergues and bars serve the village. The monastery itself offers accommodation. The setting — in a narrow green valley surrounded by chestnut forest — is beautiful.
Founded in the 6th century, Samos is one of the oldest continuously occupied monasteries in the Western world. It reached its peak of power and influence in the medieval period, controlling vast territories. The 1951 fire was catastrophic but the community survived. The Benedictine order continues to maintain the monastery.
Pass Foxos, and in Teiguín the camino splits again. It is possible to stay on the road all the way to Sarria, but the connection to Aguiada is recommended. Along the road to Sarria is 8.8km, via Aguiada 12.6km

Parillado Castro Restaurante had delicious food and good value! Perfect for an after mass or monastery tour dinner. Thankyou!

Stayed here in a private room with private bathroom. Affordable, and right behind the monastery. Spotlessly clean and quiet stay, do not miss the little church behind the block (Chapel of the Cypress).

There's a faded sign on the donativo door saying they are closed due to "breakdowns". The waiter at a restaurant nearby said they didn't pass inspection and it's closed indefinitely.

When in Samos on Christmas eve (24th December) head out to bar "Tras do Convento" to meet the locals having a beer or wine. Everbody is welcome, including solo pilgrims.
By the way, the Brasilian bar ladies are the best and small bites are served for free.

It is irresponsible for this app to include walking on the road from Samos to Sarria as an option Please remove. The road is busy and dangerous to walk.
20. July 2025 - 22:11
Please please please take this option by road from Samos to Sarria off this app. It is dangerous for pilgrims to walk on the road. It is a fast road with bends and should not be included here. It was my worse experience
15. July 2025 - 14:23
We took the road way, big mistake quite dangerous at times with no shoulder to walk on. We thought it would save time but sorry we did, was our worst day.
23. June 2025 - 15:16
We had an excellent breakfast here. I asked for fried eggs and toast using Google translate and got an excellent serving. I am a woman and so were many more that came in after me and service was great. Sorry others did not have the same positive experience as I did.

Saw several women try to get served here. The extremely rude woman at the bar completely ignored them. Would only serve local men. Why give them any money when there are other places in town?
22. June 2025 - 12:00
Rude. Rude! Will not serve women!
13. June 2025 - 15:38
We had lunch at Albaroque today and were truly impressed. Loved it!
25. May 2025 - 13:01
Do not take the road route from Samos to Sarria, it is dangerous as the road is busy with no footpath at all. It should not be included here as an option due to the danger of walking on a busy road.
18. May 2025 - 8:52
The road route to Sarria from Samos is not pilgrim friendly: no path, you are walking on the tar surface into traffic on no shoulder.

I had a private room with shared toilet. It was nice and clean. Vending machine for snacks and drinks.
Free tea in the living room.
Paid 29 euro. I had the menu across the street. It was good and enough

Can not recommend this Restaurant high enough. Amazing food , had bologna to die for . And the cheese and nut salad was also perfect. It is so reasonable in price and the owners are very kind people.
