Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino del Norte app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Hazas is the center of the Liendo area — a broad valley with several scattered settlements. The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción stands opposite the albergue. Basic services are available. From here the camino climbs to the N-634 before splitting — the official route descends to Tarrueza, while a shorter option stays on the main road directly to Laredo.
From the albergue the camino climbs up to join the N-634, turning left to follow it a short distance. When it splits the official camino turns left to leave the main road and descend to Tarrueza. You can alternatively keep on the N-634 on a shorter course to Laredo; this option will rejoin the official camino at a large junction.

The coastal route from San Vicente de Liendo church to a little past Iglesia de Santa Catalina church, (basically this entire purple route, from green to green) is approximately 650' of elevation and about 4-ish miles. I found it to be very enjoyable and worth the effort. Course I'm not sure about the effort required for the other option. Enjoy !!

TERRIFYING STAY at the municipal albergue - was awoken at 1:30a to loud pounding on the front door and a man yelling “open the f@ing door NOW!” He continued to bang, then we realized there were 6 of them outside. They threw rocks at the windows and were trying to get in. We called the police and they found a group of young men, with no proof they let them go. We learned this morning that it has happened here before. It was a terrifying 20 minutes that lead to a sleepless night. Also the showers have no hot water.

We went the coastal path for the arrival to Laredo. It has some good sea views, but Laredo looks like a commercial holiday strip …. rather than the varied interesting old town of old quarters and history. Those last five kilometres were the most rocky and irregular of the camino to this point. We were very glad of our sturdy ankle boots, as theres plenty of injury risk, especially at the end of a very long day from Castro. So lucky it was overcast, otherwise it would have been unbearable. The final descent comes through some very neglected neighbourhood. Arriving and lying down for half an hour, of course makes all that dust and ache disappear🙂🥾🥾

We had a long day planned from Castro Urdiales to Laredo so were in two minds about taking the longer coastal route. So glad we did, it was really worth it. Beautiful views from the cliff tops and the geography around Laredo is incredible viewed from above. There is some climb but most of tomorrow will be road so I recommend grabbing this bit of coast path today.

Why does wise pilgrim seem to prefer the route that goes by the hoghway rather than the coastal rouge?? When leaving Hazas for example?

I’m walking el Norte in Sept/Oct 2025. Can anyone who’s stayed at an albergue that does not take reservations in Liendo, and used Paq Mochila (Correos) to transport their luggage, recommend a bar/cafe that accepts the drop off and delivery of bags via Paq Mochila?

Took red route today from Liendo into Laredo. That part is about 6.5 km. Beautiful coastline views. It is a bit more elevation gain than the highway into Laredo. It is mostly road (paved or gravel) except for one section of trail (the blue shortcut portion in Buen Camino App). It rained a lot last night and a few short pieces of the shortcut section were muddy, but we got through with dry feet. Allow a bit more time than the distance alone would suggest as the shortcut section will be a bit slower. The shortcut section approaches the cliff edge in a short section, but never closer than 3 m. If you don't want to do the shortcut section, the Buen Camino app has a longer route that follows farm tracks. Enjoy!

Albergue, shop, bar, restaurant in this small village with friendly people.

Until summer season starts, the albergue is only open from Monday to Friday. It's 10 €, you can do your washing for free (there's even washing liquid for it). It was very clean and has a good kitchen. Nice hot shower.
The hospitaleros come from 7-8pm to check you in but you can get in and settle yourself earlier.

Having followed the map at La Magdalena and exhausted ourselves on the hill, we took the bus from Liendo to Laredo. Well worth the €4.

Really helpful staff, translating everything in to English. Not the easiest of diners, I’m vegetarian and my sisters gluten free. €12 for 3 courses but we had 2 courses with a bottle of wine for €7:50 each. Excellent

Have just walked into Laredo from Liendo. The Camino route is very different to the online map. Goes out to the coast. Some great lookouts and two steepish climbs

Highly recommend Posada La Torre Del La Quintana at Liendo. The rooms and staff are brilliant. Budget price for luxury stay.

Had a rest here but pushed on to Laredo ad I wanted to stay at the Trinidad. Very relaxed and welcoming place stayed and had a couple of beers. Heard that the Albergue is top notch and felt like a place I would be very happy to spend an evening Will go back😉 @caminobertie

I think they changed the camino way from here, so now it doesn't go along the n634. But be aware that that's 6km or so longer, so about 10k to Laredo

Be aware that yellow arrow signs will show you an other Way than blue dots. Fantastic scenery!
