Camino del Norte App

Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino del Norte app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Perfect on the Camino

La Posada is a very good option if you stop in Río Seco while doing the Camino, super friendly host MAR, excellent breakfast. Very welcoming rooms.

Stick with the yellow arrows

Big food shop on the left coming into town and great bar/coffee on the right. The comments about the church and diversion, and this App are confusing. Today August 14th we just stuck with the arrows which took us to the church ( closed but we weren’t planning to visit anyway) and it didnt any extra km.

Leaving Rioseco

On leaving Ríoseca there is a yellow arrow that turns right at the industrial area. Take this and avoid wasting time and effort going to La Magdalene, where the church is only open for Mass. also this saves 3 to 3km of steep muddy goat tracks.

The Church

The church Iglesia de san Vincente is worth the visit.
Very beautiful and old from the outside and looks abondoned. But very interesting.

Leaving Rioseco

At the far end of Riosecco the marked trail turned left even though the blue dots on the app continued straight. I continued on the blue dots to La Magdalena where the marked trail turned left even though the blue dots contained straight. I decided to follow the marked trail at that point and it did lead me over the mountain pass. When I finished the descent I was right where I should have been on the blue dots. The way from Riosecco likely joins this same forest trail and would have saved me time.

Way from Rioseco

From Rioseco there are signs leading you off the N364 sooner and crossing through the forest via Tresagua and Lugarejos, coming back to the blue dotted line after La Magdalena.
I think km wise it's similar to the route here and you still have the climb, but you're off the main road.

Exceptional Stay

We stayed here 5th August 2022, there was 3 of us and we couldn't have been better looked after. Mar was so lovely and accommodating to us, as we're the locals at the bar. One of our most favorite places to stay so far on the Camino del Norte.

Alternative

I stayed in Posada de Valle De Guriezo which is a nice old house with lots of character, but beside a busy road. I found service from the proprietress lacking though. Small bar downstairs but locals look at you like you’re an alien visitor. No dinner, so your options are go to a restaurant 2km away or the grocery store across the road. However the kitchen is not for guest use and is locked, so you’re really limited with what you can eat!
