El Pontarrón

The receptionist was very nice. She told me if I could not be there until 18: 00 the tabacionist will check me in. So i think you can deal with the check in time.
Otherwise I was alone in whole house. There was about 4 rooms. My room was private, but I dont know about the others. But it was very comfortable to have my own room. There is one bathroom. It also has a hairdryer. There is no kitchen, but there is a bar where you can buy a sandwiches for a dinner and some drinks.
I had no problem with this accomodation, everything was ok.

The Bar

This is our 3rd Camino. The bar does have a stamp, but you have to ask the most unfriendly person I’ve met on 3 Caminos. Wow.

Stayed at the Bar

Susanah was friendly and the room is 35 euros if you share the queen bed with a friend. Vintage experience.

The bar

Sat down for a coffee and a toast.
The bar owner who is a woman were not happy that I didn't speak that much spanish. She talked loud to the other customers in spanish about how irritating it was that us walking the camino didn't speak spanish. That I understood. It was not such a nice feeling. I wanted to ask her if she would study german before going to Germany, but how should I ask her.
Anyway it was nice to sit for a short break.

Bar El Pontarron

The bar El Pontarron is not only a bar, it's also à little hotel with 4 rooms. Old but clean, they cost 20€. It's possible to eat at the bar, so it was a interesting accommodation for me.
Susana is a kind host.

Dangerous.

Walked to Sonabia and locals advised not to continue because route extremely dangerous with several accidents needing helicopter rescue. Walked back to Oriñon and spent the night in a cheap hotel

This is the coastal route

This is the coastal route after Sonabia. If you see the black arrows then this path is best avoided.

15. April 2019 - 18:15

The route is marked with

The route is marked with black arrows painted on rocks. I went this way today and turned back after finding myself scrambling over boulders with cliffs to either side. There was about 500m where one step wrong could be you off a cliff edge. No idea why this route is shown on the map.

The albergue was very dirty when we arrived- there was no one to look after the albergue just the check in process at the bar. There is a microwave at the albergue and no dinner is served at the pub, only small pinxos or vending machine junk food. If you stay, make sure you have your own sleeping bag and take food you can microwave.

I agree that the coastal route is the more difficult way. You walk up the mountain on a very narrow pathway which gets quite steep towards the top and eventually you have to climb up big boulders. The way down is steep. The path is poorly marked with a black arrow but on the way down you can kind of the the pathway down to a cabin. If you are confident then you can take this path and be rewarded with stunning views of the beach and headlands but only do it if you have a smaller/lighter bag and it’s good weather.
