Services

Ancora is a medium-sized beach town with all services except a pilgrim albergue. It has a long sandy beach, a working fishing harbor, and a waterfront promenade that fills with families in the summer months. The Forte da Lagarteira, a small 17th-century fort at the south end of the beach, is an easy detour. The Dolmen of Barrosa, a Neolithic burial chamber on the beach itself, is one of the more unexpected archaeological finds along the Coastal route.

The Camino:

To find your way from Âncora, make your way to the waterfront. The camino follows the road adjacent to it, and where the yellow bike lanes begin you have the option of crossing to the right-hand side of the road, but keep an eye open for where the bike path turns left as you want to follow it to where it ends. From there continue along the dirt track, with the railway to your right for a short distance.

You will pass the Capela de Santa Isodoro on your left. The path will turn to a road as it enters the first suburbs of Caminha, and where the road ends at another turn right. You are at the beach now and a short distance later turn right and pass under the railway. Once back to the main road turn left and continue towards Caminha.

Where the camino arrives at a large roundabout with the N13, take the third exit along the Rua de Pombal (NOT over the railway). The road will eventually twist to pass over the tracks and from there it proceeds directly to Caminha, arriving at the main square, the Praça Conselheiro Silva Torres.

Lélé is a great place to stay

Run by an amazing host, Lélé is a very comfy place. The restaurant across has a great pilgrim menu (soup, chicken steak, water and coffee 10€), which was super filling and they also have stamps. There is also a supermarket right around the corner.

New albergue Bombarda 51

A brand new albergue opened in Vila Praia de Ancora 3 weeks ago. It still smells like fresh paint. It’s beautiful. Bunk beds have curtains. Nice showers (separate men’s and women’s). Laundromat is a block away. Nice addition to the town.

Hostel D'avenida

We had a cosy wooden double room for 55 euros with bath. We slept like babies in the comfortable beds. Friendly staff and a lovely Italian restaurant 50 meters away with very tasty meals. We recommend!

Hostel D’Avenida

We had a private room with own bathroom. Can’t say I’d recommend. The street noise was very loud until the bar shut around 8/9pm and the room and bathroom wasn’t very clean. Better value to be had elsewhere.

Beautiful Place!

What a beautiful place! I would recommend stopping here if you can. It has the most beautiful beach, lots of cafes and restaurants and shops.

We stayed at Baixinho Guest House, a triple room. Good value and use of a basic kitchen.

Casa da Clô fantastic experience

Sandra and her husband were amazing hosts for this stay. The bed was amazing and a balcony view of the ocean!

I asked about the laundromats in town and Sandra insisted that I allow her to wash my things at her home.

I would definitely come back here.

where to have lunch

On the way to Caminha, I stopped at "Vila Praia de Ancora" for lunch.
After asking locals where to eat well and cheaply, I was recommended the "café paradise".
daily menu for less than €10 P.P with soup or dessert, main dish and drink.
It's well worth it for the price and quality of the food.
I recommend.

Baixinho guest house

Very nice town with possibilities to enjoy the ocean. We stayed at Baixinho guest house - private room for couple, cozy, clean room. Stores in the town to buy groceries, restaurants.

Quinta da quinhas

Yes it was off the pilgrim walk but it was worth it !
Our 5 year old son loved the Guinea pigs, rabbit and donkey encounters . Christina the host was warm and genuine . The kitchen had everything you needed . I even used the oven to make some fish fingers !
Rooms were clean and comfortable. I would return again !

Guest House Pereira

We stayed in a private room at guest house pereira - 20 euros each. It was comfortable and full kitchen facilities. Shared bathroom. We had a look at the rest of the hostel and it is worth noting that although the rooms seem like they have 6 beds, the walls are open and you can hear everything from the other room, so it is basically like being in one big dorm. Highly recommend this town as a stop off - nice beach and restaurants. We enjoyed a great pizza at Napoli down the road and sat outside watching the sunset. Very authentic and delicious Neapolitan pizzas!

Quinta de Quinhas - heaven on earth

I came to this Albergue after a long walk. There was such good vibes and very quit. A lot of food stuff was offered. Eggs, bread, fruit, tomatoes and more.
Clean a lively rooms.
I suffered from severe blisters and decided to stay for another day. The manager herself drove to town to buy Compeed for me and I was offered antibacterial medications.
I truly recommend this place.

Quinta de Quinhas is the best albergue

I'm not sure why it's not listed but it's a fantastic albergue with a great host and community feel. Clean and new.

8. June 2022 - 9:32

Hostel d’avenida

Slept in dormitory of 6 for 16€. Hospitalera Maria Magdalena is Wonder Woman. The bar next door belongs to the hostel. Coffee and croissant for 2€. Nice place to stay in front of a beautiful beach.
