Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino Portugués app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.
Get the appThe Monasterio de Santa Maria de Oia dominates this small coastal village. It's a Cistercian foundation dating to the 12th century, and its fortified appearance isn't merely decorative -- the monks here were responsible for defending this stretch of coastline against pirate raids and Viking incursions. The monastery's position, right at the water's edge, gave the monks a direct role in both fishing and coastal defense, an unusual combination for a contemplative order.
The building has been privately owned for years and access to the interior is limited, but the exterior -- massive stone walls rising directly from the shore -- is impressive from the camino path that passes right by it. A restaurant sits just before the monastery, well positioned for a meal with a view.
The path through Oia takes you past all of the important stuff; first the Casa Puerta, then the restaurant, and then the Monastery of Oia.
300m beyond the Monastery the camino turns left to follow a coastal footpath and always keeping to the shoreline. You will eventually return to the road, and when you do the familiar bicycle path is there once more, follow it to the left and into Viladesuso.

Best cafe con leche I had on the Senda Litoral was at the tiny Bar Puerto! A lovely village, too.

Very quaint and two restaurants are nearby. Every place closes around 3:30pm until 8pm near Casa Puertas. No air conditioning.

The Hogar del Mar is an absolutely beautiful and affordable rental. If you get the chance, please stay at this house!

Just beyond Oia is Casa Toni, a beautiful fantastically equipped apartment, run by a lovely couple who provided beer and lifts to supermarkets or restaurants.

We were stuck in a storm and needed to dry out.
We got excellent sandwiches, good drinks, and a fabulous view all for very reasonable prices just past the monastery right on the Camino. Just look up to your right!! An oasis in the storm!

We really needed to wash some clothes, and this is a perfect option if you’re staying in Oia! Washer and dryer, €4 each in coins. Detergent was mild and multiple options/settings took care of our technical fabrics. Good capacity and our Camino clothes were clean in less than 2 hours, perfect for the wait time before the restaurants open at 20:00. Nice experience overall, also with a vending machine. Opens at 9:00 and there’s a coffee machine too.

It was raining all day, we was totally wet. This alberge, help us to dry all clothes, we got welcome drink and tasty breakfast. Everything was included in price, no additional payment. Alberge very bright and very cute. Clean place and pleasure beds (not double) made our stay in very comfortable.

Had such a wonderful stay in Oia. Will definitely stay in Casa Picota again, the best albergue so far on the Camino. They take reservations. Sparkling clean. Rooms are big. Bathrooms big. Linen. Very comfortable. Beautiful view of the ocean. Hosts are super friendly and helpful.

La Cala was fully booked so we stayed in a big property called Casa Picota, a minute away from La Cala. They charge 30€ per person and each room has three beds. The price was worth every single penny! The views from this place are stunning. I felt like we were living in a painting. The house was extremely clean, modern, had a huge dining area and the hosts were super friendly and helpful.

Absolut empfehlenswert.
Fühle mich hier absolut wohl.

We arrived at La Cala Inn after a long walk from Vila do Praia Ancora and had a lovely stay. The room we were in (3 beds) had beautiful views of the sea and the town. At €20 it was a little on the expensive side, but we had free use of the washing machine and dryer as well as fresh pastries and coffee for breakfast - a bargain really.
Really beautiful town to stop off in. Could be a good option for a rest day.

Friendly place to stop for coffee. Complementary sweet bread and view of monastery.

This is one of the most wonderful stops on any Camino. The sunset over the Atlantic with the view of the Monastery was spectacular. And Tanya’s accommodations are definitely a cut above the normal albergue with fresh bed linens and all the amenities of a hotel. Great local reataurant and Tanya’s Vibo de la casa is premium. A must stop on Portuguese Way.

Just another vote for staying at La Cala. Tanya is a wonderful host and the place is sparkling clean. Her pup Mia is a sweetie too :)

There is another play to stay that is not listed. It's call La Cala - Pilgrim Inn. Charges 20 euros/night. It was a renewed old house with full kitchen, bathrooms and pretty much everything new. Tanya is a great woman from Colorado, and her dog Mia is awesome. She offered us wine and also free of charge laundry.
It was a great place to stay!

Not a lot of ATMs in the area! Make sure to get cash in A Guarda!!!
