A hillside village where the camino takes the least straight path possible through the streets. At the far end, a small fountain set in a wall marks a fork — turn left to visit the Romanesque church (a climb and detour), or turn right to save the effort and continue along the road.

The Camino:

At the far end of town, where there is a small fountain set in a wall, the camino indicates a left turn. Go that way to visit the Romanesque church, or turn right and save yourself the not-strictly-necessary climb and detour. The camino follows along the paved road until the road turns right to return to the national road; at which point the camino keeps on straight and into the forest. The forest track emerges to a small cluster of homes where you turn right and cross the national road. Follow the narrow road to Lugar do Corgo and beyond.

Stunning scenery

This whole area is just beautiful - really enjoyed walking in nature during this stage

Restaurante Altamira

Nice restaurant only 600 meters from the Camino. It’s also possible to spend the night in a shared apartment (there is two rooms so it’s only shared if both rooms are booked).

A slice of heaven in Casas de Rio

From the moment you enter this quiet calm space, the family attends to all of your needs. Nothing is too much. The rooms, the outside area, the food, the jacuzzi, pool and other facilities led me to take a break day here also. Each room has two beautiful, comfortable armchairs to lounge in, the evening meal in the outside eating area, breakfast is offered in the inside breakfast room. There are no shortcuts taken, the food array/options are outstanding, night meals have a couple of choices. I recommend the salmon, curry rice and salad. There are a good range of wines etc to purchase. Everyone enjoyed their choices. I highly recommend the extra cost and slight detour. I paid €60 for my room, the bed was so comfortable that I slept in for the first time since Lisbon.

Casas de Rio

I had a reservation in this rural but chic little hotel but was not expecting such a wonderful and quaint place. The original house is 500 years old and there were extensive renovations and elargement done to create a place where you would love to stay longer. A bit far from the Caminho (1 km) but sure worth the extra steps! A pool , a jacuzzi and a marvellous outdoor dining area adds to this beautiful, quiet and well kept hotel. Obrigada!!

Quinta Da Cancela is nice

I stayed there a few days ago, and it is a really nice place. The host was very helpfull and guided me to a take-away close by, where I could buy food.

If you want to eat in this town make sure to Google where!

I wanted to eat in Balugães but the Camino did not seem to pass any cafes or restaurants. Perhaps I missed a sign but if there was one it surely must not have been obvious. I got to the end of town and then googled places to eat and had to walk back quite a bit before finding a place (cafe/restaurante Altamira)

Very nice property

Excellent stop but not a lot of places to eat. We are at a gas station down the road. The food was very good.
