Services

Villafranca de los Barros is a large agricultural town with all services, including four albergues for pilgrims — unusual abundance for the Plata. The Iglesia de Nuestra Senora del Valle, a 15th-century Gothic-Mudejar church, anchors the main square.

The stretch between Villafranca and Torremejia includes a long straight gravel section that follows the original Roman road — one of the best-preserved sections of the calzada on the entire route.

The Camino:

The stretch of the camino between Villafranca and Torremejía includes a long straight gravel section which is an original Roman road. It makes a few minor twists and turns but eventually heads directly into, through, and out of Torremejía.

Casa Perin

Great little place where I got a spacious private room for €30. Rescued the day when the main Alburgue was closed

Good Albergue

The hospitalerio at Albergue Extranatura was excellent, he greeted us earlier than expected as we arrived early and he explained everything to us even though it was a Sunday and all the shops were closed except for one about 7 minutes away but we had to get there before 3pm, he also offered to wash and dry our clothes which was included in the price, after we had eaten tea at 5pm our washing was folded so neatly on our beds. The beds are so comfy too and it is very quiet so had a great sleep 5 stars for this place

El Bistro/Le Bistro

I’ve seen this restaurant’s name written many ways, including as Le Bristo on Tripadvisor. Located on the Plaza España, this restaurant is centrally located and very, very good. We shared a wonderful goat cheese salad and some of the best grilled artichokes I’ve ever had in Spain. So, if you are feeling like treating yourself to something other than a carb-heavy pilgrim’s meal (which they do not have), this is the place to do it. We found the price very reasonable for such a good meal.

Casa Perin

Calle Carrillo Arenas, 40. A very nice place to stay. Our room was on the ground floor with a private bath. The beds were very comfortable, the water was hot, the location was quiet, and the landlady very helpful if you speak Spanish. All in all a nice place to stay. One word of caution — there is no check in between 2pm and 4pm.
