Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino Portugués app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Padron may be the most important small town on any Camino. This is where, according to the Translatio legend, the stone boat carrying Santiago's body came to rest — the pedron (mooring stone) from which the town takes its name sits beneath the altar of the Iglesia de Santiago on the riverfront. Ask the sacristan to show you; it's in the crypt.
Santiago is said to have preached here during his lifetime, making his posthumous return a homecoming of sorts. The Convento del Carmen, on the hill above town, offers views over the valley.
Padron is also the birthplace of Rosalia de Castro, the 19th-century poet who is to Galicia what Pessoa is to Portugal — the voice of a people and a language. Her house on the edge of town is now a museum. Camilo Jose Cela, the 1989 Nobel laureate, was also born here.
And then there are the peppers. The Pimientos de Padron — small green peppers fried in olive oil and sprinkled with coarse salt — originate from the monastery gardens at nearby Herbon. The famous saying holds: uns pican e outros non (some are hot and some are not). Between May and September they're at their peak. Out of season, you'll still find them, but the Russian roulette is less thrilling.
All services available.
The pedron — the stone beneath the altar of the Iglesia de Santiago — is traditionally identified as the mooring post to which the stone boat carrying Santiago's body was tied when it arrived from Palestine. Archaeological evidence suggests it may be a Roman altar or milestone, repurposed by Christian tradition. Regardless of its origin, the stone has been venerated for over a thousand years and connects Padron to the foundational myth of the entire Camino.

Stop at Dulcinea Reposteria Artesanal for breakfast. The food is delicious. Well worth the stop
26. September 2025 - 14:02
Beautiful hotel but far from everything and adds to the Camino walk. No elevator to get to your room. Stairs are outside and steep and you have to drag your luggage up the stairs. No nearby restaurant and hostess is rude. Who wants to climb up and down outdoor stairs after a 12 mile Camino walk and carr luggage? I don’t

Cafe in Faramello open til 2pm apparently
22. July 2025 - 12:21
Next towns between Padron and Santiago don’t have many food options, as they are quite small. There is a nice pilgrim friendly cafe as you enter Faramello - if you can wait.
21. July 2025 - 13:17
Before you book a room in Padron, check to see if there is a festival on during your stay. We got there on the day of an all-night techno rave which started at 01.00am. It was right outside our room which made it impossible to sleep. You might like that, but it made for a rough day walking the next day.

Little restaurant run by the rudest and surliest woman in Spain. Spend your money somewhere else
30. June 2025 - 15:24
Good restaurant with a unique takeout concept. You choose cold pre-portioned meals from their fridge, and then you can take them away to eat at home or use their microwave/toaster in the restaurant and eat there. They have a wide variety of dishes, including vegetarian options, and also offer drinks, bread/pastries, and other small snacks. Great option for an easy and cheap meal when you don't feel like cooking!

Excellent supper, not necessarily local food a mixture but it was very good, esp the nachos, everything fresh and delightful staff.
Went back for breakfast, recommend the salmon and avocado toast 👍👍👍

Scammer, charged 150% of what was advertised. Will only call 2 taxis and staff is rude.
29. September 2024 - 18:22
If you stroll in Sunday afternoon before 4 pm you’ll be right smack dab in the middle of great farmers market!
28. August 2024 - 1:48
Great hostel! The host is so kind and helpful. Whole place was clean and quiet.
The host recommended the restaurant O Alpendre—it was great! Be aware many restaurants are closed on Mondays.
17. May 2024 - 18:14
This Restaurant is closed to city centre, and our group of 3 were lucky enough to get a table inside the bar when it was raining heavily.
The host is a young man, very friendly, always smiling, and speak quite good English. The soup, home-cook squid and garlic prawns were delicious, and all pilgrims should try if they arrive at Padron.

This is by far the best Albergue I have been to so far. Very clean, organized, water, coffee, cocoa, etc, for pilgrims (gratis). Lockers to use, sheets, towels, etc. all provided. Hosts are friendly and helpful.

Had an amazing meal. Price was very reasonable and server was great. Sangria was especially good. Located along the big tree park in town
14. September 2022 - 17:54
The entry into town is not attractive, very industrial. But if you stick to the Camino path, it is a bit better. Stayed at Camino Portuguese, a relatively new, spotless, place with a restaurant below. Great location on road out of town. Basic but nice and affordable.
26. July 2022 - 20:44
Clean and modern . Host is very attentive to keeping the place neat and tidy .
There is an oven but no stove to use , there is a microwave , toaster and kettle .
A great stay just before making it to Santiago . It’s on the yellow path so no need to deviate . Supermarkets were about 200m away . Restaurants across the albergue
21. April 2022 - 22:01
A very, very nice place to stay is “os Lambrans” 2,5 km after Padron. If you want to treat yourself.
4. September 2021 - 17:47
Stayed in Pensión Jardín in Padron. This has to be a stop in your Camino. Beautiful Church( with lots of history regarding St James), town and the pension just made the stay in Padron the icing on the cake.
29. September 2020 - 13:16
Albergue Margadan
Complet whole new modern albergue with a very friendly and kind host.
