As Travesas

Casa Avelina was absolutely wonderful - she was beyond caring and brought over extra meat for my bocadillo (and even free cookies before we hit the road). Just the love and spirit we needed to finish a rainy day on the Camino strong!

So far the best experience on my trip. Such amazing people in this magical bar. Even though they were full, they treated me like their own grandmother. They talked with me, made sure I was okay. They had amazing beer and huge Spanish sandwiches. They saw I couldn’t finish it and brought me foil to wrap it up. The lady owner gave me a stool for my sore legs, and in the end, she didn’t even accept a tip (I secretly left it on the bar, so I hope it reached her). Amazing, amazing, amazing.

We stopped for a quick sadwich and two beers. Great sandwiches btw! (bocadilos?).

Anyways since we had been walking for quite a long time, my legs did hurt and I wobbled towards a chair. This caused one of the kind ladies to qucikly help me sit down and find an extra little stool for my legs. She then proceeded to find a bag of ice and put that underneath my legs.

It helped and I am still very grateful 🥹🥹

2 beautiful sisters. Beautiful big sandwiches!The cafe if full to the brim of memorabilia. The ladies just want to look after you and ensure you have a good time. Stop,sit back and relax!

I had a small breakfast consisting of a chocolate pastry and a tea. I took a bocadillo con atún y queso as take away. The woman there took care of me and helped me dry my clothes. It was raining heavily. She was super nice. She also had the idea of taking the can of tuna instead of putting it already on the bocadillo. That was a great idea and I had a great lunch later eating my bocadillo con atún y queso.

If you can, stop there!

To show you how great these women are: when i was there it was buzzing - many many people were coming in, shouting, eating, asking questions. I did have a Coke but had not paid for it yet. Since there were so many people, i left a 5€-note underneath the empty can. Thought of it as a donativo for the great work. I was walking for a least 15min (into the woods) when a local police car came up behind me. In the passenger seat sitting was one of the ladies. She stopped me, asked if i had left the note. When i said yes, it was a donativo, she said no. She said she was sorry that they didnt pay attention to me. And then she gave me the change! Would not take it back. This woman found someone who had seen me, convinced a police man to drive her after me for 3,50€! Then the car turned around and i was again on me way.

If you go, tell her the 5€-girl from Berlin says hi :)

I have to admit. The older lady is a lovely person and very helpful.
Good coffee, a huge bocadillo and she offered me an extra footstool to rest my legs.
I feel very welcome and enjoyed my breakfast.

Pleasant and very helpful old lady behind the counter!

There is a nice little bar here with two old ladies running it, but don't be fooled of their disguises. They are angels waiting for the weary travellers.

We were dripping wet and the two ladies welcomed us and made wonderful bocadillos for us, wrapped a jacket around my cold friend and took such wonderful care of us. Fantastic place.
