Camino Francés App

Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino Francés app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Services

Quiroga sits in a beautiful valley of vineyards and orchards, and it has all services. It's the most substantial town between A Rúa and Monforte de Lemos.

Restaurante Aroza, off the main street near the Plaza Mayor, gets consistently high praise — the menú del día with good wine included is a bargain, and the tapas are excellent. Closed Sunday evenings. Panadería Marisa opposite the albergue opens at 8am for breakfast.

Your choice for the next stage is either A Pobra do Brollón (23 km) or the full stretch to Monforte de Lemos (35 km).

Notice:

Bring water for the next stretch. There are two fountains before A Pobra — one in Carballo do Lor and another in Castroncelos. Services are scarce between Quiroga and Monforte.

The Camino:

Leave Quiroga following the waymarks west along the main street. Cross under the N-120 and follow the LU-933 along the river. The arrows take you across the river on a bridge — cross it to go through San Clodio (which has a bar that opens early and the Quiroga train station), or continue straight to bypass it.

After several kilometers on the N-120, cross the highway at a mojón. The path rises over Noceda. After an ascent, an arrow takes you off onto a dirt track. At the top, the camino merges with the PR-G141 hiking trail. There's a lovely descent through old-growth forest and along streams. At the intersection of several dirt roads, pass the Capela dos Remedios and continue straight (the PR trail diverges left).

Hostal Dimar

I chose to treat myself after the long day from A Rua. The Hostal Dimar was a real surprise. Don’t be put off by look from the street. Beautiful rooms and bathrooms. Filled with bright light.

Municipal Albgergue in August

I spoke with the hospitalera and she told me that in August it is grape harvest season and they don’t allow pilgrims to reserve beds because the vineyard laborers take priority. It’s a first come, first serve basis for the few beds available to pilgrims. Luckily there are a few options in town! Something to keep in mind when planning to stop in Quiroga in August

When leaving Quiroga

After you leave Quiroga Consider taking the detour across the river to San Clodio even if you don’t plan stopping at the cafe then rejoining the marked route at the next bridge. You can enjoy the lovely riverside track in san clodio rather than the marked path which was a busier road with no access to the verge in Spring.

Hostal quiper a great option

We booked a private twin room, was 50 euro - good clean rooms with great shower. Laundry service was offered which was great. Supermarkets near by and good dinner restaurant next door (dinner starts at 8pm) but also a tapas and breakfast cafe just downstairs which is very handy after a long walk. Full of locals too, which is always a good sign

Breakfast

2 bars open early morning for good breakfast. Near Quiper.

Old growth forest is gone. It’s a logging area that is now barren.

Albergue de Quiroga

The whatsapp number listed for the albergue is out of date by 8 years. The albergue appears to be closed on 11 October 2022. Hostal quiper was open and very nice.

Albergue Services

They have WiFi, yet it only works in lobby and not in rooms. In winter double rooms have electric radiator plugged into wall, yet it is still cold.
Hospiteleira is very kind and wants to practice speaking English with English speakers.
