Services

Tapia is on the camino for historical reasons, and modern arrows make it easy to follow. A medium-sized fishing town with a modest port and plenty of food options. The Iglesia de San Esteban, built in 1898, is almost brand-new by camino standards — and neo-Gothic.

The municipal albergue wins the prize for best views without a climb, but it's small. Arrive early.

The Camino:

From Tapia to Figueras there are a few walking options, including several coastal variations that are not officially the camino. If you follow close to the coast you won’t get lost and it is a beautiful walk. It cannot help but bring you to Figueras, which is the riverside border town of Asturias.

5km after tapia - anam cara house

anam cara house, lovely new hostel with real sheets rather than the usual disposable ones! no shops or restaurants nearby but there is a kitchen, so bring your own food to cook.

Apartmentos Turisticos Playa de Tapia

A total treat! Especially if you need a Zero Day, we stayed for £71/night and had an entire cute apartment with kitchen for finally cooking. Clean, modern, well stocked. Oceanfront! All services of town short walking distance. Didn't want to leave!!

Hotel Puente de los Santos

Don’t judge from the outside.
We had a triple room. Clean and comfortable. Modern, updated bathroom.
Our room was at the end of the hall and face the back of the building. It was quiet.
Request a hair dryer at the front desk.
Hostess was very friendly and let us borrow umbrellas as it was pouring to go out for dinner and see some of the town.
There’s a nice coffee shop right across the street.

Municipal Albergue Tapia de Casariego

Municipal Albergue. Tapia de Casariego.
Pilgrims love a cheap bed. We are on the road for a long time and try to save money wherever we can so we can complete our journey. However, the state of the municipal albergue at Tapia de Casariego was appalling.

It is a donotivo and I understand I don’t have to pay anything if I don’t want to , but it was insulting. Pilgrims still require cleanliness. The state of the beds was awful. The white(?) cover over the mattress was covered in dirt and other peoples hair. The covers had obviously not been cleaned for some time as they were all wrinkled and dirty. Bed bugs heaven if ever I have seen it.

I have completed four Caminos and this is the worst albergue I have ever seen. Possibly why it is free. If anyone thinks I am being unfair, please do not hesitate to go and spend a night here. I dare you!! And good luck. Do not rush to this place. It is shameful.

When you leave the city the

When you leave the city the Camino will lead you over different route then it’s here on the map, with a lot of asphalt roads. However, if you follow the signs to the GR E9 you will walk more or less the original route across country roads with beautiful views on the sea
