Welcome to the top. Be mindful of the way down, which is poorly signed.The best way is to keep the road, and the guard rail, to your left while following the curve in the road. It soon joins a track and descends into Montefurado.

Beware that the refuge is at the Alto is locked (August). Given repeated thunder, hail and rainstorms as we crossed Los Hospitales, we had hoped to take shelter at the refuge but this was not to be.

Vaya Brasa food trucks offering burgers, tortilla, fruit, zumo and Bob Marley among free roaming loving horses. Welcome respite for pilgrims and bikers alike.

There seem to be plenty of signs down the mountain now. Most people though still seem to use the road which is unrelenting asphalt. Taking the trail is, in my view, better but beware loose rocks underfoot.
