We stayed here after the long and hectic walk from Porto. Beautiful
Property inside and out, with a wonderful sense of ancient spirituality. No bunk beds which was nice, and several rooms of different sizes.we slept in a 6 bed room. Sheets and blankets provided..we neede several
Since it is March and the place was unheated! The floors were quite cold which made me think of monks across the centuries living here. Very well stocked kitchen including herbs and spices and oils and things to purchase for a donation like pasta Lovely breakfast. Overall a really good pilgrim vibe.

We stayed here on our first night of the Camino. The location being in the monastery was beautiful, with lovely views, and the staff were friendly. Extras like the meditation room were a nice touch.
However, the showers (at least on the top floor) required holding the shower head, which made washing difficult. Our bed cover also had a large stain, which was disappointing given the €30 price for a private room.
Overall, it was a decent stay, but I’d recommend opting for the cheaper shared room instead. There’s also not much nearby, so make use of the shared kitchen and check shop hours if you plan to buy food locally.

If you're planning on more of a classic Camino stay at a monastery, this isn't going to be that. The chapel is closed except on Sundays, and while they let pilgrims know that they have a meditation room upstairs, it's not what you might expect- it's more of a yoga room with floor mats and a Buddha statue. It could be exactly what some are looking for, but would also be a suprise for others going out of their way to come here.
You do have the option of staying at more of a normal former monastery the night before Santiago, in a town called Herbon, they have a full tour and a group dinner, I'd highly recommend it.
That being said, the grounds are well-maintained, the price is reasonable, and the place has all of the essentials you'd need.

A lovely peaceful place with amazing gardens. Made to feel very welcome. Great accommodation

I loved my stay at this gorgeous place! Everyone was welcoming. The rooms were simple and clean. The showers were warm. And the breakfast was delicious! I highly recommend it and wish all my albergue experiences were similar to this one.

A very special place to stay on the Camino! The albergue is set in a former monastery, which gives it a unique and peaceful atmosphere. The staff are incredibly kind and welcoming — truly some of the most hospitable people we've met on the Camino.
There is a kitchen where you can prepare your own dinner, and they offer food on a donation basis, which is very thoughtful.
We had a private room on the top floor — it was clean, comfortable, and had a beautiful view.
We can only recommend this place for your stop along the Camino!

A must-stay. Comfortable bed, restrooms and good kitchen to cook. A mini market close by has the essentials you can buy to cook. The building (super preserved) from 1000 years ago, plus all the nice vibes from the hospitaleiros are a great relief after a long walk from Porto. Please try the escalda pés and the meditation room, from where you can see a beautiful sunset . I recommend 100%.

The staff was super gracious as I think they’re volunteers at the monastery. Fruit, cereal and coffee for breakfast. Nice kitchen/dining area was great too.

(In February) a good first stop from Porto. 10€ +5€ for sheets + 5€ for breakfast. Very cute place but rooms are cold. Breakfast is bare bones but tasty and was upgraded to a two person room as it was quite. Showers take a while to run hot but are in private cubicles

A gem of a place, worth the detour. Not a donativo anymore. Curiously they ask you to place the accommodation money in a box on the wall and then they put the money for breakfast away separately? Breakfast not worth the money.

Very nice place to sleep for your first night after Porto. plusses consists of: cute kitten, blankets, good pillows and LOTS of space (only 4 people total in the woman room). Restaurant closest by is horrible but the guy owning it was very nice and accommodating.

Von außen ein wunderbarer Ort. Sehr freundliche Menschen. Ein sehr gutes Essen.
Aber: Es ist leider alles sehr heruntergekommen. Ich würde deswegen dort nicht wieder stoppen.

I stayed here December 11th after leaving Porto. I was the only guest. It is a nice old ministry we’re the alberga is on the third floor. €10 for the night + €5 if you want sheets. Good kitchen, and hot showers. The host (Phillipe) was very friendly.
Leaving very early in the morning I thought the outer gate doors were locked, just before I was about to wake the host I discovered that opening the latches on the right door and then pulling them both towards you did the trick 😅
10. July 2022 - 19:52
Please be aware that this hostel is no longer a ‘Donativo’ hostel and you have to pay a minimum of €10, plus an extra €5 if you want sheets for the uncomfortable bed. Nice surroundings though with beautiful views.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for the first night of our Camino after walking from Porto. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay the night. The host was very nice and welcoming, the rooms and beds were nice and because the restaurant was closed that day, the staff cooked a lovely dinner which we had at a big table with the other pilgrims. All in all we would highly recommend anyone walking the Camino to stay a night in Vairão.

The woman at the front desk told me they are never full, so no need to worry about getting a bed!

Lovely old monastery- great start to the Camino Portugués. They are helpful and friendly and kindly gave us our own room! The bar up the road has excellent food and service.

Fabulous old Monastery to explore along with a very pretty village. One small mini market with tiny bar. Good kitchen at the hostel. Gets really cold at night so extra blankets are provided. Cool museum and meditation room also.
