Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino de Invierno app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Accommodation type : Parochial

Run by the same organization that runs the albergue in Ponferrada, this is considerably smaller and more pleasant. It has a beautiful and sunny (fingers crossed) patio with an Acebo (holly) tree in the middle.

This Albergue is not worth staying in despite the back garden space and decent breakfast — please read all the comments about bedbugs carefully and stay at your own risk. This was my first experience with bed bugs and hopefully my last. Our first indication was that the host made us keep our backpacks downstairs due to bed bug incidents we learned later. My Camino friend and roommate (last bedroom upstairs on the left-hand-side) also got bed bugs in the same room, different bunk bed. The hospitalero was disengaged and did not seem concerned they had to close for bed bugs recently.

Bedbugs

I updated about evening meal but through the night I found bedbugs in my bed. Stay away from bed 14, or better yet, just stay away from this place altogether

4. July 2026 - 17:10

Dinner

They are currently no longer serving dinner. Only a bed and breakfast.

Bed Bugs - be aware!

The hosts were welcoming and friendly, the dinner was delicious and we went out to watch a beautiful sunset. But in the night I found two bed bugs in my bed. The mattresses are covered in plastik, but the old wooden bunk beds are a paradise for bed bugs to hide in. I told the hosts but they didn’t really care. This whole Albergue seemed to be a bit dirty and neglected. Avoid!

Closed again

I believe there are political issues happening in El Acebo. I was disappointed that it was closed. They are having problems getting hospitalaros , and seem to be open only every second week. Also not allowed to cook communal dinner apparently because local restaurants complain. Or something like that. Bummer

Open and recommended

The albergue is definitely open as of May 31, 2025.

I agree with the review from April 2025. Recommended for pilgrims seeking a traditional Camino experience.

15. May 2025 - 16:59

Closed until further notice

When I arrived in el acebo in May 2025, there was a sign outside that said “cerrado hasta nuevo aviso”

Nice simple hostel

I can confirm there are no bed bugs, the mattresses have the plastic covers so they cannot be in the beds.
There is no communal meal which is a shame, but breakfast of toast and coffee is provided to send you on your way, And the restaurant at another albergue a minute away is good. A very good burger, fries and a beer for 12 euro or the 3 course meal with wine or beer for 15 euro. And with 5 good choices for every course so better than most pilgrims menus. Nice hospitalieero who took us to watch the sunset over the mountains. Which is the best bit of the stay

Very nice and helpful hospitalero, but bed bugs!

Stayed here last night. Hospitalero was very sweet and helped me out with some new blisters I had. However- this morning I woke up with a bite on my arm and some pilgrims on the trail told me they had found bed bugs.

10. October 2023 - 20:42

Incompetent and negligent hospitalero AND BED BUGS

DO NOT STAY HERE. We saw a review saying there were be bugs, so we asked the hospitalero. Not only did he say there were no beg bugs, he got angry at us for asking and told us it was insulting and we could stay elsewhere if we wanted. He said "would it be open if there were bed bugs??" Later in the evening a pilgrim found bed bugs! She also said that it was clear that he had tried to prevent them using powder. So it seems he lied to us. At least he gave us our €5 back...

The donativo is open, I

The donativo is open, I stayed here on 11th of september 2020. Because of the covid there can be served no breakfast or dinner. The place was Nice and clean. The hospitalero was helpful.

This is a really nice hostel.

This is a really nice hostel. Dorms are wooden and sectioned off so it doesn’t feel like one big room. You have to leave your large backpack downstairs which really isn’t a problem. Mattresses are good, shower is powerful and there is a large garden for clothes hanging, relaxing, etc. Breakfast and dinner are included. WiFi is strong.

I loved this albergue, it's small and there was one hospitalero who was funny and friendly. We cooked and ate dinner together, it's a lovely community atmosphere.
