Camino Francés App

Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino Francés app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Services

Azqueta is a tiny village with a handful of houses and no reliable services. The Fuente de los Moros — a medieval cistern with a double-arched entrance and a long stone staircase descending to the water — sits just off the camino near the village. It dates to around 1200 and is worth a quick look if you notice the sign.

From here it's less than 2 km to Villamayor de Monjardín, with the castle ruins visible on the hilltop ahead.

The bar, Lan Torcha

Don’t miss visiting the bar in town with juke box and great food. The former pilgram from Holland runs a great spot on the Camino!

Elena was Amazing

From the moment we arrived we felt kindness and Friendship. Supper was amazing made with so much love and flavour including herbs from her garden. Our breakfast for the road was great. Renée has a wonderful cafe bar. Could have stay there for a few days. The best so far.

Spirit of the Camino alive and well at Perla Negra

Helena embodies a deep philosophy of the Camino and it flows into every element of staying there. I felt so deeply welcomed on my arrival- like being greeted by an old friend. Her home is rich with artwork from around the world including my homeland of Australia. Food, beds, bathrooms etc faultless! I encourage pilgrims to support the albergue s like this one that are in between main stages. They are the heart and souls of the Camino. Helena is an exemplary host.

Very good stay

Great food, cotton sheets, there are several rooms so it's essentially private rooms.
No washing machine or dryer, but hand washing is no prob.
Wonderful host, comfortable beds.
Best night yet on camino

Best Stop Thusfar!

This place has a special energy. It is so peaceful and artistic. I counted 14 beds, not 7 like the listing mentions. Helena is the kindest host. She is full of love. If you are an omnivore, don't let the vegetarian menu deter you. The food is hearty and delicious. She even picks herbs from the mountains. I get the feeling that the place is never full, so show up and stay! Opens at 14:00.

Cafe bar L' Antorcha

The cafe was definitely a highlight . What a fantastic place, great coffee , amazing food and lovely people . The village was lovely too and i would consider staying at La Perla Peregrino if I ever came this way again.

Wonderful host

Elena is such a kind and caring lady who made sure we felt comfortable in her home.
The food was gorgeous and she fitted breakfast in at a time to suit us.
I have an allergy so mentioned this before hand and she was extremely accommodating.
Would go out of my way to stay here again as it was so lovely ❤️

Warm welcome with open arms (stayed 19/04/2024)

So inviting and caring.
After not being able to secure accommodation in Estalla, Elena welcomed our party of 3 with open arms.
Beautiful accommodation, amazing home cooked meals (dinner and breakfast), quiet location.
Elena truely cares for the pilgrims and will go out of her way to ensure they are looked after. The blessing she gives as you leave in the morning makes the stay even more special.

Best albergue experience so far…

The Perla Negra in Azqueta is welcoming, warm, and roomy. The atmosphere is relaxed and Elena, the proprietor, is elegant and generous of spirit. She prepared a delicious common meal for us. The beast I’ve had so far. No bunk beds here. No crowding. All peregrinos were kind and polite with each other as a result of the good environment engendered by Elena. Finally, we were provided with a great breakfast and a warm, morning send off.

28. April 2024 - 20:35

Peregrinos from Around the World

Elena made sure we were all comfortable. The meal was all I love to eat since I am vegetarian. She had quinoa , a chickpea stew with fresh vegetables. Spinach salad and scallops. Nice glass of wine before bed and some fruit to finish dinner.

Highly recommended!

27. April 2024 - 17:48

Perfect - vegan dinner

I loved it here. Super host - lots of amazing vegan food. Single beds only. Feels very homely and not at all like a dorm hostel. It was a nice break from Albergue life and worth the little extra. Stay here - you’ll be happy!

10. October 2023 - 18:57

One to remember

Elena is a fantastic host and as she puts it ‘cooks with love’ and you taste it! Spacious rooms with beds in a small 40people village; you will arrive a peregrino and leave a friend

26. June 2023 - 14:21

Not for everyone

La Perla Negra is not for everyone. It’s not for people transporting carryons. It’s not for people who want the cheapest bed possible. It’s not for dedicated carnivores. Its not for people who know the price of everything and value of nothing. It’s not for people who still haven’t opened their hearts to the Camino.

For everyone else, La Perla Negra is a black swan event. Something you never expected but once encountered it puts everything else into perspective. With La Perla Negra in your stay history you’ll have an albergue out of the ordinary to compare everywhere else with.

Helena is the pearl and the albergue reflects her heart. If you’re a touregrino move on. This place is not for you and you’ll be unhappy. If you’re open to Camino grace, you must stay here.
