Camino del Norte App

Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino del Norte app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Services

The barrio of Igueldo occupies the slopes of the massif west of San Sebastián. Services — a bar, a small shop — sit along the main road south of the camino. The walking through here follows a mix of paved roads, centuries-old cobbled paths, and forest trails before descending past the Iglesia de San Martín and dropping into Orio.

The Camino:

From the Buenavista Hotel the camino keeps to the paved roads for several more kilometers but eventually heads back into the forest along trails and even along centuries old cobbled roads as it descends to the AP-8. After passing under the AP-8 turn right to follow the road steeply uphill. At the top is the Iglesia de San Martín. Follow the road straight into Orio.

Buenavista closed and being knocked down

Buenavista hotel is closed and being knocked down when writing this comment, Sept 25. It may not exist in the future so it's one to look out for. So there's a right turn off the main road where the remains of the Buenavista currently stands, that leads on to a narrower, paved (tarmac) lane.

Arrived here a bit exhausted

After a tough day dragging our mtb’s for the majority of the trip from irun we are happy to arrive at a good clean room. Friendly staff and a locked garage for our bikes!

Very small town

We stayed at Iturritxo Landetxea (Casa Rural en Donostia San Sebastian Iturritxo Landetxea) and it’s one of the best places on the Camino so far. Double room with queen bed and private bathroom for €65. Super clean and super comfy. Breakfast for €10 per person. A couple restaurants nearby and there’s a small grocery stores in the campground nearby. Book direct at iturritxolandetxea.com is slightly cheaper than on booking.com. Happy stay :)
