Scenic view of Toral de Merayo on the Camino de Invierno

Camino de Invierno App

Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino de Invierno app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Services

Toral de Merayo is a small town with a nice stone bridge, a pharmacy, and a bakery. Café Bar Nogal in the plaza is friendly and opens around 9am. Bar El Puente is near the river. There's also a post office and a small shop before the bridge.

Bars on the Invierno often have irregular opening hours, particularly on weekends. Don't rely on any single establishment being open.

The Camino:

Leaving Toral de Merayo, pass the church. The asphalt road turns to dirt fairly quickly. The camino branches off to the right, and you'll soon arrive in Villalibre de la Jurisdicción.

Cafe on the Plaza

Perfect early stop from Ponferrada. Cage con leche and cakes, 1,40. Had cafe with the locals until a flock of fast moving Pilgrims stopped in. Glad there were customers to support this clean, quaint cafe.

Careful of dog

The guy walking ahead of us got bitten by a loose dog on the outskirts of the first town we passed through. It just looked like a border collie or cattle dog, not a vicious breed, and apparently it wasn’t a bad bite (he got checked out by a local doctor before continuing on the path), but still something to be careful of. The police were called and have I believe told the owner he needs to keep the dog contained in future. Just something to be aware of.
