Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Vía de la Plata app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Proserpina is a small settlement spread along the road north of Merida, named for the nearby reservoir. Most of the village sits to the east of the camino, but a few restaurants and bars line the road before and after the embalse. Don't expect much in the way of services -- this is a place to pause and take in what the Romans left behind, not to stock up. If you're planning to push through to Aljucen or beyond, fill your water bottles here.

Despite the lure of a cafe here, the place looks run down, overgrown with grass along the foreshore and now derelict. The place looks like it suffered from covid closures and has yet to recover. Suggest get your coffee in Merida before setting out. A pity as it is a nice setting. The jet ski hire place at the north end of the place apparently was going to open at noon but that is also a gamble.
