Scenic view of Dornelas on the Vía de la Plata

Vía de la Plata App

Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Vía de la Plata app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

A small village with a privately run albergue, Casa Leiras 1866, directly on the camino. A young Italian couple, Cristina and Andrea, renovated a house to open it. A 300-meter detour down to the N-525 highway takes you to the bar/restaurant El Emigrante.

The Camino:

From Dornelas the camino descends to the Río Ulla, passing through San Miguel de Castro (5 km) along the way.

Gas Station/Tienda

At the 26,245 market there is a road to the left which takes you to the highway and there is a gas station with a tiny store and vending machine coffee. It’s close and a nice stop as everything was closed for me along the path so far today!

Brand new Albergue in Bandeira; pretty sure it’s around -€8

Although I’ve walked this route, we live 3k out of Bandeira so slept in my own bed for the night!
Silleda Council are very proud of this unit - available from 3pm.
Bear in mind if you’re coming through on the 14th or 28th; it’s market day!

Our favourite Albergue of the trip

We loved our stay at this Albergue, wonderful hospitality from the couple who manage it, option to add a delicious dinner and breakfast to the booking, plus an onsite bar - we really enjoyed sharing a bottle of local wine outside looking out over the farm and views. The room was very comfortable, good bunk beds, hot showers, modern and spacious - highly recommend!

A delightful Albergue, highly recommend!

This was one of our favourite stops, great place, great hosts, option to buy a delicious dinner prepared by the hosts (breakfast as well), and a bar on site. We enjoyed sitting in the sun and looking at the countryside, sharing a well earned bottle of Albariño. Very warm and comfortable Albergue

Casa Leiras is a must stop

My sons and I stayed one night—only pilgrims in the albergue. Treated to an amazing dinner of pasta and tortilla. Breakfast of toast, jam, and cafe. The albergue is clean and modern but with fascinating historical elements. Andreas and Christina are warm, welcoming, and know the Camino.
