Scenic view of Barakaldo on the Camino del Norte

Camino del Norte App

Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino del Norte app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Barakaldo is the largest of Bilbao's satellite cities and the first you'll pass through on the official camino route heading west. It's a functional place — residential blocks, commercial streets, and the massive Bilbao Exhibition Center — that the camino winds through on well-marked paths. A riverside pedestrian path eventually leads out toward Sestao. Basic services throughout.

Secret donativo albergue

Just outside of Bilbao, easily reachable by public transport. In high season Bilbao is usually full, but this albergue saved our day. The albergue was clean, the host was really friendly. There aren't many pilgrims here because they either stay in Bilbao or walk to Portugalete, we had the whole albergue for ourselves. It has breakfast. You can't find it on Google Maps, but it worth searching for it. Outside you have a lovely park and a swimming pool.

One albergue for 3 pilgrims !

I was so surprised to see that the albergue stay relatively empty at this season and so close from Bilbao and metro I have one bedroom for me ! It's spartiate but there is beautiful park outside and swimming pool. The host was lovely, she gave me food and drink when I come late.
