Triacastela marks the bottom of the long descent from O Cebreiro and a natural stopping point. The village sits in a green valley, a dramatic contrast to the exposed mountain walking above. The name refers to three castles that once stood here — none survive.
The village has several albergues, bars, and restaurants. A small supermarket handles provisions. The atmosphere is relaxed and green after the mountain.
Historically, pilgrims quarried limestone from the hills around Triacastela and carried it to the kilns at Castañeda (further along the camino), where it was burned into the lime used in constructing Santiago's cathedral. It was a form of pilgrim labor — a practical contribution to the building of the destination they were walking toward.
The route splits here: one path goes directly to Sarria via San Xil (the shorter, hillier route), the other detours south through the Monastery of Samos before heading to Sarria. Both reach Sarria in roughly a day's walk.

Seriously - it’s a converted jail. The front door bangs loudly when anyone goes in and out, only 1 outlet worked in the room. It reeked of strong cleaning products, so I had to air it out when I arrived. The room was dark and dank with the scent of mold. Also, the food from this establishment is mediocre and expensive. The grocery store was sad at best. I’d recommend pushing forward to Samos. Triacastela seems very commercial and somewhat exploitative of Pilgrims.

Don't want to go on anymore, please don't carry bed bugs further, these are not mosquito bites, please go to the hospital staff who can help

What a great place to stay in Triacastela. This new pension is at a great location , the rooms are clean, modern with ac and a great bathroom. There’s a kitchen on site and we felt so welcomed by Belen and Jessica. Thank you very much for this comfortable oasis. It needs to be added to the app.

Had a great stay here. Building is a 1920's home, tastefully renovated by its Belgian owner into a pensión.
Clean and quiet room, laundry service. Ideal for a bit of a bougie stay while one resupplies in the supermarkets of Triacastela.

A concert stage was set up by this ‘pilgrim’ establishment immediately out front. The walls are vibrating with music and it’s after midnight on Sunday morning.
Also this town’s one mini market is closed all weekend and opens on Monday.

We highly recommend staying at Hotel Alda. We needed a good rest after a long downhill stretch so we chose this hotel and a superior double room. Everything was clean and comfortable. We even had a sitting area with a beautiful view. It was like having a vacation within our pilgrimage. Great value!

Not listed on this app, but on booking, we were so impressed with the large room with a queen bed, so rate on the camino at habitation Casa de Pepe. We left our charger behind and they were so nice that they dropped it off for us in Sarria! Incredible.

I have stayed at 3 Alda hotels on my Camino - Leon, Ponferrada, and Triacastela. They are an excellent choice as the staff are always super nice and sweet. Very helpful. Lovely breakfast.
Great rooms compared to many other hotels. Highly recommended.

I stayed at Hotel Alda for one night. It was comfortable and very clean. Easy to find and the reception desk was kind and helpful. Breakfast was extra and cost 5 euros. It was not included with my private room reservation. I would stay here again, but breakfast cost extra.

We decided to walk slightly further past Triacastela to A Balsa, Albergue El Beso. We had an amazing stay. The albergue is beautiful - timber bunks and great showers, and a hammocks area out the back of the albergue. The owners Marijn and Jessica are vegans (we are not vegan ourselves), and we got served an amazing meal - one of the best we have had on the Camino! Highly highly recommend this as a place to stay.

I’m doing the Camino with my daughter and today we opted for a private room at Albergue Atrio. It is a beautiful and clean albergue, it has a beautiful patio and a shared kitchen. Our bedroom is spacious, has high ceilings, a balcony and a nice bathroom. I think very reasonably priced. Highly recommended!!

There are two supermarkets in Triacastela. The other smaller one is fine. ACE is rude and unpleasant. Have to leave rucksacks outside and sold us rotten fruit. Really unpleasant vibe. Avoid if possible

Took the alternative red route and stayed in Samos. The monastery here is beautiful, but the route to get here was very different than what I’ve seen on the Frances. There were several abandoned villages that were sketchy with vacant buildings and no one in sight. As a young woman, I didn’t feel safe or at peace. Walk with other pilgrims if you plan to go to Samos and take this route.

Pension Xacobeo offers very clean, spacious and modern accommodation and is very well equipped to cater for all ranges of travellers. There is a garage with electric charging points for electric cycles, commercial washing and drying machines which dispense their own detergents and a few doors away, the hostel owns a bar which also serves food with menus translated into many languages . There is a large seating area for self-catering diners although the kitchen is rather small. Highly recommended.

Coming through the farming cute stone village just before Triacastela where 2 big dogs, one was tied up the other one leapt up and bit my back pack pulling me over. At the first bar we met a girl who had been attacked by the same dog, it had ripped her backpack. I didn’t even see the dogs, taken by complete surprise.

If going to Samos getting food can be challenging on a Sunday
