Camino Portugués App

Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino Portugués app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Notice:

After crossing the bridge the official camino turns right and uphill. However it is possible to turn left and take the old (unmarked) road which follows the coastline. Note that while this route is very doable it is best undertaken with a sense of adventure. There are several bars along the way, and at least a bit of beach walking.

Beach route is scenic, but mostly washed out

You end up walking on the beach for most of Pria de Lordelo with a couple of small streams to cross! The original trail is washed out by the spring storms! Better to stay inland on the streets

Beach Route and Boa Onda Bar

For those contemplating the coastal route; it’s true that some segments are not paved or board walk or hard trail - just beach. That said, I invite you to take the opportunity to pry off your boots and walk in the sea! Wonderful for swollen feet and totally doable for only 25-40 minutes or so (depending on where you wanna go).

If you do, be sure to stop at Boa Onda Bar on the beach in Amarosa. The owner, David, makes homemade lemonade, watermelon juice, etc that are TO DIE FOR. Whether with some rum or vodka added or not is up to you, but a lovely place to decompress!

Beach is impassable

Beach walkway beyond Amorosa was drifted over with sand. I recommend staying on the main route, or follow N-13

A perfect recovery stay at Alburgue Ultreya

After a hard 2 days of biking in the rain with very poor sleep at the other alburgues I stayed in, this was such a comfort. The shower was hot and the bed was comfy and warm, perfect for winter Camino venturers like me. There was also a place for me to store my bike indoors.

Hotel Reguenga is the best!

Hotel Reguenga is definitely the best value in Portugal and offers unbeatable hospitality.

I stayed at Hotel Reguenga during my Portuguese Coastal Camino walk, and it truly has to be the best value hotel in Portugal! For just 25 euros, I got a spacious, clean room with an ensuite, a TV, and the largest courtyard I’ve seen. The cleanliness was impeccable—easily the cleanest room I’ve experienced on my Camino.

The highlight of my stay was the exceptional service from the owner, Manuel Almeida. He went above and beyond by offering to drive me to the nearest open restaurant and even picking me up after dinner! His generosity and thoughtfulness made my stay unforgettable.

Thank you for such an amazing experience—I will definitely be back!
