Camino Portugués App

Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino Portugués app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Services

Marinhas has several bars suitable for a morning coffee, as well as a shop before the main road crossing. Near the church are a few more bars and the municipal albergue. It's a low-key place to stop if Esposende felt too far the day before or too close for today.

The Camino:

The camino from Marinhas keeps away from the sea, and climbs gradually to offer an elevated view. The path is along paved back roads with little traffic. Eventually, beyond Belinho, the camino crosses descends to cross over the main road and joins a narrow forest path down to the Ponte do Sebastião.

Marinhas B&B

A little bit of luxury on the Camino. Very clean room with linens and towels, motorized exterior shade on window and a private patio. Facility has a small bar and restaurant with a good set of meals available. Highly recommend this place.

2S Restaurant

Incredible pilgrim menu for €16. Food was absolutely delicious, abundant, and staff was very welcoming.

Restaurant Bem Estar

Although they say they are open until 11, the kitchen closes at 10 and they really hustle you out. While the food was good, I found the servers rude (probably just tired after a long day) and would advise going earlier in the evening.

Great Guest House in Mar - Maré de Passos/Tide of Steps

There is a new guest house in Mar (stage 4 - Marinhas to Viana ). The owners are super welcoming and lovely. All very clean and new. They have bikes to enjoy by the sea, on my day of rest I stayed there and that's what I did. I really recommend! The beds are super comfortable! I felt at Home Depot!

Marinhas b&b

Nice place to stay. Ruy was amazingly helpful. He checks you in, makes food for you, and can answer all your questions. I stayed in a 5 bed linen and towels with 1 shared bathroom. 2 of us were walking the camino, the other 3 were out til 1:30. I would had preferred either a smaller room, or 1 with all pilgrims

Not worth the money paid 12euros

18 people in one small room, 14 or 16 in the other, no sheets, no towels, no place to put your backpack in/on, no lockers, no side table, no place to charge your phone by you bed, no light, in showers water bursts from pipes, no hot water, kitchen, showers, paid washers in the basement. Basement smells bad, like mold. No place to wash clothes... Not recommending. Maybe 5 euros, but 12 euros... NO! Stay away

Stayed at Praia Mar today / tonight

Wonderful warm owners. It’s clean is nice, it isn’t expensive and could be a favourite spot so far. Has wifi, bar and mini macarons right on site. No need to wonder the town to find stuff. Good coffee too. Beer is cold and coffee is good.

Lovely home cooked meal

Restaurant Bem Estar has delicious home cooked Portuguese meals for affordable prices. We chose the half portion and still it was too much.

Great place in Marinhas

We stayed in the Marinhas Bed and Breakfast. It is beautiful, clean, modern with a private balcony and incredible ocean view. The staff was so friendly and helpful. We had a light dinner and wine at the attached convenience store. There is an Italian restaurant and Portuguese restaurant within a 10 min walk. Private, spacious bathroom. Excellent experience.

Call ahead for albergue space

The albergue filled up by 2:30 pm today. You can call ahead day-of to reserve a bed! I saw several guest houses along the route that are not listed in the app, so some alternatives.

If you don’t have a sleeping

If you don’t have a sleeping bag with and it’s cool, you have to be prepared to sleep without a blanket.
