Albergue de peregrinos Virgen de la Carballeda

Clean, large albergue with good heating. The restaurant across the way, Me Gusta Comer, is delicious with excellent wine with the pilgrim menu!

The Albergue is very fine. Its clean and spacious. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. I would rate it pretty high. About the food, the whole charade made me laugh. Dont get me wrong, the food actually tastes great. Just the fact that the guy came over to tell me which glass to use for wine and which for water is funny. With the first course he told us which cutlery to use. It was over the top for me, because its not a michelin star restaurant or a gastronomic experience, but I believe he felt it to be. Its an above average pilgrim menu, but still a cheap menu. The presentation is very nice and they are really trying. But if you ask me, he is trying too hard. The whole thing made me laugh (which is good too). Tuna paté with 3 grapes and a dade, strawberry jam over the rim of the plate. Main was 2 slices of pork, drenched in some orange salsa with apple sauce spread on the rim of the plate. He is really trying, but a little too much. You do not get a choice by the way. It was a set menu. Tuna paté, cabbage soup, pork in orange sauce, ice cream cake with coffe flan, coffee or tea with a shot of whatever. Again, don’t get me wrong, its absolutely great value for money. The whole thing just seems out of place. He takes shit just a little bit too serious. Walking around in his chefs uniform. I couldn’t stop laughing. He did bring enough wine and bread. I would definitely recommend this place for the experience, but the food is just a little above average. Go there and enjoy it! Dont forget to put things in perspective but still have a great time. Fun and joy, that’s what the camino should be all about.

The albergue is modern and comfortable. The Hopitalero also runs the Gastronomica restaurant which is first class, and at €10 for the menu del dia is fantastic value for money - the best food since Sevilla at less than half the price. Phil, Cardiff, UK. 10 October 2018

Alburgue is super fine but the restaurants Me gusta comer is fantastic. Just got the best tasteful menu in the Vía de la plata. It is located across the street from the Alburgue. You have to go there.
