El descanso de San Juan

We had reserved for four people and paid in advance, but unfortunately only the two of us were able to make the trip. However, the extremely friendly hostel team (father-son) assured us beforehand that we didn't need to worry - we would find a good solution. And that's exactly what happened. The hostel is small, the food is good, the atmosphere is relaxed and family-like, the rooms are clean and comfortable.

Great location right on the camino and the massive church across the path. Attentive hosts, comfortable and clean rooms, tasty food with a varied menu, and lovely outdoor seating area to relax after a long day walking.

In my opinion, this is one of the best albergues on the Camino. It is cozy, very clean, and has delicious food. All delivered by a father-son team with great smiles and caring attitudes. My wife and I stayed in a private room with a bathroom. It was perfect. I would definitely stay here again.

Father and son did a great job making our stay (also father abd son) comfortable. They provided extra blankets, heaters, fresh orange juice, good menu with good food - good paellí. Great location where you see all plegrims pass by. First albergo when you enter the village.

Really nice stay.
It was very quiet, with most heading around the corner to the huge monastery.
The food here was really good.
Facilities first class.
Staff pleasant and helpful.
I would be very happy to stay here again.

A lovely friendly little albergue with bar and snacks (the pizza was surprisingly tasty). But one really great thing is that each bed has a locker, so you don't need to take your valuables everywhere you go. A very thoughtful touch.

We were happy with our stay, this Albergue was clean and quiet.

This place was fantastic—very good food and service, comfy beds, private bathrooms in each dormitory, and a sweet little garden. I’d definitely stay here again.

Loved this Albergue! I had the most amazing seafood pasta here. It has been my favorite meal so far on the whole Camino. And the father and son hosts are so friendly. Would definitely recommend staying here

Well run and the father and son were very helpful. Great pizza and good music. Lovely courtyard where pilgrims and visitors gather at.

This has been the nicest albergue I’ve stayed at. Each room has its own private bathroom and shower. The outside patio area is so lovely to sit in enjoy dinner and a drink with friends and pilgrims in neighboring albergues.

Nice and clean with a very friendly father and son hosts. Who BTW were not aware of their very positive reviews.
Worth staying.

Last night I stayed in El Descanso de San Juan. It’s a great little Albergue and café/bar. The family who run it couldn’t be nicer. They have such a relaxed, welcoming style. I’ve stopped several times here before to eat, they are always the same and charge reasonable/low prices. It’s a place with heart and, although the dormitory rooms are small, I would definitely stay here again.

This is the first Albergue when you reach town! We had the private room with a double bed — clean, comfortable and airy! The owner was so friendly and helpful. We had both lunch and dinner at the downstairs bar and he even made us bocadillos for the next day! The place was a great place to relax after a long day of walking.

We had rung a number of places in San Juan and surrounds. All full. This place had one bed only but he remembered us and called the next afternoon to say he now had 2 beds. So grateful. Cute. Clean. And yes, soy milk. I’m in heaven.

This little albergue has been my favourite so far! With just 7 beds in the entire place, it was the best night sleep. The owners are lovely the ambiance is great and the pizza is delicious

This is a little oasis in the tiny hamlet of San Juan de Ortega. Wonderful hosts, clean, comfortable, good food and a lovely atmosphere. One of the best so far.

Small albergue in the entrance to the town. Has two bedrooms and 7 beds total, each bedroom has a toilet and shower and lockers.
They offer several types of frozen pizza, nothing vegan (but there’s another place in town that offers frozen vegan pizza!)
For breakfast we asked for bread and jam and he had soy milk for my coffee! Offered himself as he saw we were vegan. Also made my husband bread with olive oil, tomato and salt.
Overall nice small place

I made the reservation via e-mail 4 days before my arrival.
Since I did nor receive any answer I have repeated it one day before my arrival.
No answer.
When I have arrived they were just watching on me and they said they do not even have rooms/beds for pilgrims.
Really, I left without words...
I had to cpntinue my way to the other albergue.
