Camino de Invierno app

Pilgrims on the road and friends along the way send me changes every day, and they go out the same day. The Camino de Invierno app carries all of it offline, and it's still being built — new features arrive routinely.

Welcoming and Caring

Refugio Gaucelmo made me feel welcome and cared for as a pilgrim. The volunteer hosts were warm and helpful while all so being efficient. I had a hot shower. There is a lovely common area inside and a huge outdoor area. A highlight of Gaucelmo is the afternoon tea including the visit and wisdom provided by Brother Antoine. I would definitely stay here again.

Almost a Home away from Home

A beautiful old building with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. So kind and helpful staff! Afternoon tea at 5. And don’t miss the mass with the monks singing and praying in the old Church next door ending up with a blessing of the pilgrims. A beautiful and intense experience no matter who or what you believe in.

Warm fireplace!

Lovely albergue with beautiful gardens, as well as a nice salon with a fireplace (very cozy as it gets colder!!). Tea served at 5 was very nice too. The spirit of the place is embodied in its hosts - warm, kind, and considerate!

Refugio Guacelmo Great Place

The hospitaleros (Ken, Nigel and Ruth) were great hosts and took every opportunity to make sure our stay met expectations. Tea
Was served at 5:00pm
Highly recommended.

Great place

In our opinion this was one of the nicest places we have stayed. The hosts were wonderful and couldn’t do enough to help. The place was spotless, the amenities were clean. Afternoon tea and biscuits were great as was the simple breakfast. In all, great. Don’t go past this place

Cannot recommend highly enough

The hospitalerios that we had during our stay went above and beyond to show us kindness. The accomodation itself was very clean and the dorm neat and tidy. The old building has beautiful charm and ‘tea time’ at 4pm was a delightful experience. The kitchen was well stocked with a stove and oven as well as many pots and pans. Would stay here again in a heartbeat

Lovely Hostage

I met such lovely people here and the volunteers are so lovely too. One of my best experiences on the Camino <3

Nice comfortable beds. Only 2 showers. No food available. No WiFi
I wouldn’t stay again
Didn’t feel very welcome on our arrival.
Don’t reply to messages well

One of my favorite stays on the Camino

Highly recommended. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The hospitaleros are gracious and welcoming. The bathroom and showers are nice. There is a large courtyard for visiting or sipping tea (it’s run by a British confraternity.) There is also an opportunity to pray in the nearby church with the monks next door.

A sweet spot. Clean, with kind people.

Every 2 weeks you'll get new hospitaleros but Chris, Richard, and Rose were so helpful and full of stories of the albergue and their own travels.
Tea at 4pm is a nice option for building community with other peregrinos and the confraternity. Coffee, tea, toast included in your donation. Please be generous or at least fair when donating.
Highly recommend.

A great experience all round.

This place is a gem. Plenty of beds and space in the dorms, a sitting room, a fireplace, a kitchen and space to wash clothes. The garden is a highlight, with ample hanging space for drying clothes and chairs, tables or grass to sit and talk and reflect. Roses, apple trees, cats….what more could you want!! The hosts were lovely and took care of us like family. A wonderful warm welcome on arrival, afternoon tea was offered and misplaced or forgotten items were reunited with their owners. I love this place - don’t worry about booking somewhere, just go here!!!

Loved this place

What a wonderful Albergue. Run by volunteers from England who couldn't do enough for their guests. Clean, a fire in the snug where afternoon tea is served at 4:30pm biscuits homeade cake and tea.

Great hospitality ❤️

Refugio Guacelmo is Remarkable

Really enjoyed the hospitality and pilgrim spirit here. The volunteer hospilataros were arelovely Brits from an English chapter who rotate here for two weeks.
They even prepared an English tea and cakes at 4:30pm in the garden.

It is directly next to the Benedicrine monks/church so you are able to witness the Vespers at 7:30 (1/2 hr) then cook or get dinner and retun for compline at 9:30 (15 minutes) then off to bed.

Good ventilation in sleeping room, beautiful outdoor space, and a nice indoor study. A centrifigul clothes spinner makes handwawashing/drying fast. Decent markets nearby.

P.S.
If you cook, please offer to include the hospitaleros as they have great stories to offer.

We were going to stay here

We were going to stay here and it looks nice but the staff gave us a bad vibe. We felt like we were back at school and being shown around by the headmaster. No smiles. I asked how long they were there fir and she said two weeks, that's enough. No smiles, no laughter, no jokes. Seemed very depressing atmosphere. We moved to a different place.

This is a very beautiful and

This is a very beautiful and peaceful place. Volunteers are so kind and welcoming, English tea and breakfast with good coffee is provided and the garden is stunning. There aren’t washing machines but there is a spinner. It’s true you won’t get WiFi and they are strict about quiet times after 10 and before 6:30 but if you want a very special place to recharge this is it.
