Grungy hostel

Didn't really feel like a camino Albergue. More like a cheap punky hostel. The cats and kittens made it sweeter! Wouldn't recommend the breakfast as it's all put out on plates the night before and left out in the open...bread rolls, lollipops, brewed freeze dried coffee since around 8ish the night before. However the walk from here made it worth the night. The shower was good and strong.

Great place to stay. Those comments did not reflect my experience. Very comfortable and 15 Euros is fine with me. For those pilgrims of the past with bad reviews, sleep outside.

Great vibes and adorable cat!

Lovely albergue with a beautiful grassed communal area, perfect for relaxing or hanging laundry. The rooms fit 6–8 people, bathrooms are standard, and the overall atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The host is wonderful, and Pirata, the adorable one-eyed ca, adds even more charm.

The kitchen is well-equipped, so make sure to bring food with you. If you’re looking for a big supermarket, there’s a Supermercados Alimerka on the edge of Ribadesella, a little off the path.

Great vibes all around, highly recommended!

Worst atmosphere

stayed here in May 2023. We arrived at the agreed time and were greeted by the female host/volunteer(?) giving us the stink eye. Weird welcome. We then got to meet the male host. He was throughout our whole stay agitated and providing a hostile atmosphere. He went through the motion of being a host but it was obvious he hated the Pelegrinos. Asking if one could pay by card? He behaved as if one insulted him personally. Not verbally but eye roll and hostile body language and attitude.

Another big problem was how moist this place was. Really bad air quality and judging from the patchy paint they are most likely dealing with mold issues. There was one little humidifier which of course was whole fully inadequate to deal with the problem. There were two dogs right outside the window, barking late and again at sunrise. In the morning someone opened a window in the sleeping quarters, as one does. Later the male host when noticing this became very upset, claiming it's forbidden to open any window. There was no such sign. He then pestered pilgrims individually to inquire who commited the crime of opening a window in a packed room that sleeps >25 people. Outlets were a little sparse. Beds were average.

Breakfast was good, real butter and tasty bread. Nicely prepared for each person. There was a toaster that pilgrims used when we got there. The host realized this and started reprimanding us that he does the toasting. It's a toaster, relax or have a sign. Or act friendly maybe? He was constantly sitting in a corner observing anyone in a paranoid manner, just looking to go after pilgrims. Everyone behaved very normal.

Bad, almost aggressive atmosphere. We felt being treated like a mix between little kids and prison inmates. Just very unwelcoming.

Leaving this Albergue felt like a rock being lifted off our hearts. My little group agreed later unanimously that this was the worst Albergue experience on the whole Camino for us.

Very nice albergue

The hostess was super nice and even if her English was at a very limited level she was good at communicating. There are two vending machines so you can buy something to drink and some snacks/a sandwich
The host/,owner scared the h*** out of me as he is speakers extremely loud as he appatently has a hearing impairment and for a person from northern Europe it is somehow quite unusual!
Breakfast is included and self service so early leaving is possible but remember to turn on the coffe machine as soon as you can

No bedbugs - great place to stay

Various friends of mine stayed here last night and nobody had any trouble with bed bugs. They loved it - lots of animals, super friendly staff. I stayed in Ribadesella because of the previous bed bug comment and regretted it 🙁

Lovely albergue with such a friendly hospitalera! 12 euros with (quality) breakfast. Nearest supermarket is at 2 km. Albergue has a pantry where you can buy some food, but very limited. Great homemade cider, though! Dinner was not provided. We went to the Alimerka (took a little detour) on the way in for groceries.

6. October 2021 - 20:13

One of my favorites so far!

Small kitchen, but all you need is there. They have a small “Mercado” to buy food for your own dinner, like a robust pantry. Really reasonably priced! Vending machines, clothes lines, fenced in yard with a view of the sea. 12€ including breakfast. Jolie lives upstairs with her family and is always there for you. Friendly kittens and good wifi. What more could you ask for?

Very nice and helpfull Staff.

Very nice and helpfull Staff. Nice place. The best alternative if you dont want to stop at crowded Ribadesella.

Very friend staff person. There is no food nearby and a bar and shop are 1.5km down the road or a bus ride back to Ribadesella, so the host offers to make sandwiches/bocadillos for pilgrims at a cheap price.
