Comfortable, private rooms, GREAT restaurant, closed Mondays

We were looking for a place to stop a little further than Villalba and this was a lovely discovery. There is nothing here except the Casa Maragata restaurant which has a pension attached. I contacted the host via WhatsApp a couple days before, and they had a room ready for us when we arrived. The room itself was quite nice, antique-style decorations, comfortable beds, private bathroom.

The absolute best part was the restaurant – do not miss this treasure!! We ordered the pulpo à la plancha (grilled octopus ración) and the merluza a la cazuela (hake dish) and both were honestly some of the best fish I’ve ever eaten, for extremely reasonable prices. I would have paid double the amount for something similar in the USA!

If you plan to stay at the pension, definitely contact the host at least 24–48 hours in advance. We had a Camino friend who contacted them the same morning as his potential stay, and they said they were full, but when we arrived, it was obvious most of the rooms were not being used. So it’s probably not a matter of them being “full“ as much as it is about them having time to get a room ready. Also, a note about check-in – we went into the restaurant to check in, and it was all the same people doing the work – running the restaurant, waiting tables, and doing the check-in. So if they are extremely busy then definitely let them know you need to check in, but then be patient, get some food, and give them a few minutes to get everything sorted out.
